Wielrenner Di Luca levenslang geschorst
Danilo Di Luca is door het Italiaans Olympisch Comité CONI voor het leven geschorst.
De straf is conform de eis van de aanklager van het CONI.
De 37-jarige Di Luca werd op 29 april positief op epo getest bij een out-of-competition-controle. Dat was vijf dagen voor de start van de Ronde van Italië.
De Italiaan testte in 2009 ook al positief tijdens de Giro. Toen ging het om de epovariant Cera. Di Luca werd destijds voor vijftien maanden geschorst.
In 2007 won Di Luca de Giro d’Italia. In dat jaar werd hij al eens voor drie maanden geschorst wegens omgang met een van doping verdachte arts.
Di Luca stond in het verleden onder contract bij Saeco, Liquigas, LPR Brakes, Katjoesja en Acqua & Sapone. Dit jaar fietste hij in dienst van Vini Fantini-Sella Italia.
"Di Luca is due in front of the anti doping prosecutor of the Italian Olympic Committee today, and was yesterday urged by Valentino Sciotti, the patron of the Farenese group, to speak honestly and to provide the full truth."

Le cycliste italien Danilo Di Luca a été contrôlé positif à l'EPO le 29 avril dernier, selon la Gazzetta Dello Sport. L'Equipe qui reprend cette information rappelle que ce n'est pas une première pour le transalpin qui a déjà été suspendu deux ans en 2009 suite à un contrôle positif. Il avait déjà remporté le Tour d'Italie en 2007. Celui qui évolue actuellement dans l'équipe Vini-Fantini Selle Italia était 26eme du Giro dont la 18eme étape a été annulée aujourd'hui.
