Summary: You and your girlfriend have talk while on a mission.
A/N: Hello! This fic was purely made for the fight scene, I kinda get kick of writing these now so expect more! The ending was being difficult though... So everyone thank @dawnoftime22 for coming in and putting me on the correct path, check them out if love fluffy and cute fics. Also if any of the moves seem familiar to Injustice moves, good. hehe
Worst. Valentine’s Day. Date. Ever. You thought, adjusting the zoom of your binoculars, looking through one of the windows of the dingy bar Dinah was sure your mark was at. Was it too much to ask for one normal date? Or at least a stake-out in somewhere like Vegas? Where you two could go watch a boxing match right across the street from your mission? You didn’t think so! But noooo, dive bar with sketchy dudes going in and out constantly it was…
“I checked out the perimeter, only one back exit, we can block it when we’re inside… What?” Dinah said when she arrived at the top of the building you two were staked out at, right as she arrived she could tell you were upset.
“This is not how I imagined today going.” You said simply, still looking through the binoculars. You heard her let out a soft huff.
“We’re bringing a criminal to justice.” She replied, you had to agree that was satisfying, not as satisfying as doing literally anything else.
“Couldn’t we do it tomorrow? I’m pretty sure we could tail him home and…”
“Tailing him will take even more time, also you know he has his own security, he’s bound to have more muscle at his place. No, this is the only spot in town with security relaxed enough that we will be able to apprehend him.” She reasoned, cutting your thoughts. You scoff, putting the binoculars away. “I still think this is too easy.” You mention, earning a shrug from Dinah.
“Intel seems legit, Steven Mandragora is going to meet a weapons dealer tonight, at 10pm, if we do this right we can get him, the dealers and the weapons all in one place.” She pleaded, her tone a little irritated that she had to explain this to you for a third time tonight.
“Hm. Yeah, the big crime boss and his cronies are just there, gift wrapped for us?” You say, still a little skeptical but you put on your domino mask in preparation for going down there.
“Will you just keep an eye out for the target?” She huffs.
“I did, he went inside.” You reply, taking your satchel and checking for everything inside it.
“What? When?” Dinah exclaims in disbelief.
“Five minutes ago.” You finally look at face with a smirk, she rolls her eyes.
“Why didn’t you…”
“You were explaining the plan again, I felt it was rude to interrupt.” Your smirk widens, this was petty, yes, but it felt good to tease her like this. You wink at her before jumping down the building, swinging through fire escapes and light fixtures before landing on the ground.
“I can’t believe…” She starts before jumping down after you. “Don’t do that again.” She says when landing next to you as you two start walking towards the bar.
“Don’t schedule a mission on valentine’s day again” You reply without missing a beat.
“For the last time, I don’t ‘schedule’ missions, I just…” She starts to say as you two enter the bar, she gets interrupted by the sound guns being cocked and knives being pulled out. “Follow the intel”. She finishes her thought in a low voice taking in the surroundings.
You two looked around, taking in the enemies, on your side you could see a few by the bar top and tables next to it. On her side Dinah could see mostly armed men behind tables, before you could look at each other, you two heard a rather shrill laugh coming from behind the two goons directly in front of you.
“Yes, the intel. The intel saying that a SM was going to be here” the slimy voice says. The two goons part and Mandragora steps between them, the large crime boss has a devilish grin on his face “I’m afraid that was a trap. I knew that my recent actions were bound to bring heroes to my doorstep so I laid out some breadcrumbs… And it looks like I caught two birds with one stone.” He puts his hands together clearly pleased with himself.
“I told you this was too easy!” You snap at Dinah causing Mandragora to furrow his brows in confusion.
“Oh please, it’s not like your idea was much better.” She replies in the same tone. “You think this situation would play out any differently in his house?!”
“Well at least we wouldn’t need to hear his awful monologue! And another thing…” You exclaim before unclipping your satchel and throwing it at Mandragora's face, hitting him square in the nose, causing him to recoil and hit some of his henchmen.
“Get them!” Mandragora says, clutching his nose, prompting his men to start pulling out their guns and cock their fists.
Dinah takes the opportunity to backflip backwards, landing on top of a goon’s shoulders, bringing him down to the floor quickly. She brings her fists up and disarms the man next to her before palming his chest hard, sending him flying to a table, shattering it.
You immediately go low, doing a splits before kicking the goon that was at your side’s legs out from underneath him. You slap the firearm out of his hand, sending it hurling towards a larger goon's stomach.
Dinah gets up from the floor and starts throwing punches with the next guy, making her way to Mandragora.
“Don’t let him leave!” She yells out, earning a scoff from you as you dodge a knife swing.
“Or what? You’ll take me to a dingy bar to get into a fight with the henchmen of a crime boss?” You pause to take a bottle from the bar and whack it across the head of the man swinging the knife. “Oh wait…” You say, voice dripping with sarcasm.
Dinah rolls her eyes, kicking a chair for you to use as a platform as you toss the broken bottle at Mandragora’s shoulder. He screams and falls to his knees.
A gunshot rings out and you look out to see Dinah struggling with a goon with a gun, both holding onto it with both hands. Acting quickly, you flip over the one you’re fighting, hooking your arms with his, back to back, you use your weight to toss him over your head and onto the one struggling with Dinah. The man crashes onto the other one by some tables, shattering them.
“Why do you care so much about this day anyway!” She exclaims after whipping her head towards you, also mad about your behavior tonight. “You’ve always said that you don’t care about these stupid holidays.”
“Well that was until- Agh!—” You were cut off by one of the disarmed guards tackling you onto the bar, your back getting hit by the sharp edge of it. Thankfully, your suit took most of the energy.
Bringing your hand to the back of the bartop, you grab the water tap’s hose, and pull it back roughly so that it ripped it off the sink, sending it off to hit the man on his bald head, and quickly wrapping the metal hose around his neck, you start tightening it.
“Until last year, when you took me to Russia and we took down that dog fighting ring- will you stay still?!” You exclaim to the man struggling to get air beneath you. He struggles under you, before slumping and letting you get off the bartop.
“Russia?! You said you didn’t care for the cold, you were being so clingy!” She catches a fist going for her face turning the man to you using his momentum, acting quickly you drop to the floor and flip him over your head to the back of the bar, he crashes into the bottles kept there, shattering them all before slumping behind the bar.
“I was acting clingy because I wanted you to pay attention to me!!-- GUN!” You replied, and screamed out a warning, using the bar behind you as leverage to jump and flip across the bar, bringing your foot out. The grunt receives an overhead strike to his arm, dropping the gun instantly. He had leaned forward from the force of the kick, so you use that when you land, bringing your other leg to strike the back of his neck, which had made him drop him in two strikes, and left you standing next to Dinah.
“I’m always paying attention to you!” she makes her point by pushing you away, a knife whiffing between you both. She palms the hand of the man holding it, causing him to drop it and stagger towards you. Using the opportunity, you bring your knee sky high, striking the assailant on the nose, and as his head whipped back, Dinah took a hold of his neck to slam the man face first towards the floor.
“I see…” You say, panting and thinking that this fight had gone on for a little too long. But as you look around, you two realize that the only other person standing— Or well, kneeling with a broken bottle in his shoulder…was Mandragora.
You picked up your satchel that you had thrown at him, deciding to put it around your shoulder as you both made your way towards him. “I guess today was pretty fun. I was wanting to hit someone,” You said to Dinah, and she took out her handcuffs to put around the crime-lord’s wrists.
“So you’ll let me pick our next date?” She asks, bringing the man to his feet. It was obvious the police had been called by the sounds of the blaring sirens, and it was probably from the neighbors hearing all the commotion.
“Absolutely not. I like punching, but it’s not the most romantic date idea…” You help her lift the large man to his feet, noticing the red on his face, along with the bleeding nose. “You got something to say, sunshine?”
“I will kill you both!” He yelled out, trying to escape your grip, but between the adrenaline in both your systems and his busted shoulder, he could only flail a bit on the walk through his destroyed bar.
“I’m sure you will.” Dinah said, stepping over some shattered bottles.
You took a look around, seeing the state of things from all the chaos that ensued. The chairs and tables were reduced to splinters, the sink behind the bar was spilling water since you ripped the hose, the drinks that were once on display were either shattered or at least cracked and missing half their contents.
“A date here doesn’t seem all that nice either,” you spoke out, walking alongside the two. Looking around, noting the scene was not too far from your first meeting.
“Oh, yeah, I’m sure you thought I was going to suggest we have one here.” Dinah rolled her eyes with a smirk. "That was one time!"
“Of course not,” you followed up with your own words, not hesitating for even a second. Dinah stared at you. It made your cheeks heat up, to which you quickly looked away. “Maybe just a little...”
“It was a teensy bit, I promise.” you added, pinching your thumb and index finger. “Ugh…are you two done now? Just hand me over already, I’m tired of hearing you talking,” the crime-lord between you both spoke weakly.
“Oh? You’re tired of us? I’m hurt, truly.”
Dinah held back a smile, but rolled her eyes, pushing him off to the police that had arrived. They shove him into the backseat easily, seeing as you both had taken care of him.
Finally, you two were alone again, and the place was left to the officers to clean up.
“So…the date…” you turn back to Dinah, seeing her under the moonlight and the glow of the street lamps, illuminating her features. She pursed her lips, looking at you.
“The date.”
You sighed, realizing you both had come to a block in the path of trying to figure it out.
“Okay, there's no point in staying here with all these bright lights and people if it's just gonna give me a headache…” you murmured under your breath, to which she raised a brow to, but kept her eyes on you. The red and blue sirens certainly were bright, and dazing as officers talked through their walkie-talkies.
You walked forward past her before suddenly stopping, and noticing the gentle orange glow of a restaurant nearby.
It was a few minutes walk away, and still seemingly calm with few people. You guessed they hadn’t heard all the fighting nearby, especially with the loud club booming right across the street from them.
Quickly, you took Dinah’s hand and dragged her towards it, and in the meanwhile, her eyes widened, an exclamation leaving her lips– “Hey!”
“Where are we going?”
“That restaurant. Come on, it’s perfect for a date! And you want to make this night better, don’t you?” You looked back squinting, knowing she didn’t have a response, nor would she want to. Spending time with you is always amazing.
She blinks, trying to follow up with your steps. “Okay, but– wait, quit dragging me!” she said, although in all of the truthfulness, you could drag her all you wanted and she wouldn’t mind.
You laughed softly, not stopping, but slowing down. In the quieter part of the streets, it nearly echoed, and she had to keep herself from entirely gazing off at you. It was the gentlest thing she’s heard in days.
By the time you both arrived, she breathed heavily, trying to catch herself a moment of a break. It felt almost more exhausting than the fight you two had against the criminals earlier. She adjusted her jacket and looked at you slowly, noticing that you were not making any move to change out your mission outfit.
“You do know… That… We’re… Still wearing our suits, right?”
“I know.” You smirked, adjusting your mask over your eyes but ditching the gloves, they were good for punching, not using silverware.
You led Dinah to the entrance of the restaurant, the live music still playing and the place was decently full.
“A table where it's quiet, please.”
The staff member that was standing at the front looked at both of you skeptically, usually serving superheroes might get their place wrecked but considering the police sirens over by the bar far away, he assumed you two had had your fill of fighting for tonight and actually just wanted some food, he nodded. “Right away.” He checks the tables available in his table and calls up a waiter to seat you and Dinah.
The waiter leads you past the few tables that were already taken, up until you get to the corner with the prettiest dim lighting.
“All set and ready for you.” He gently gestured out with his arm, the table already clean, and the seats comfy for you two to sit on.
You thanked him, and sat across from Dinah.
“I’m paying.” She said, taking one of the menus. “Least I could, do. After I lead you into that trap”.
“It’s fine, I have led us into many traps before. But I will take the free food.” You chuckled, reaching across the table for her hand and smiling softly.
Maybe this Valentine’s day could be great after all.

Summary: You have a terrible nightmare and wake up feeling distressed. Fortunately your girlfriend is there to cheer you up and make you feel loved.
A/N: My first request done! Thank you so much for the request friend! This should hopefully serve as an example of what happens when people request :3 Hope it's not too dark in the beginning.
You were running, the streets were echoing with your footsteps, no one was around and all the buildings were dark. The question of where anybody was fell to the back of your mind as your panic of not escaping your pursuer thumped in your skull.
Your breathing was becoming ragged and sporadic, you felt your shoulders tightening before you saw a shadow move behind you. Looking back you saw no one, taking a right into an alley you thought would make whoever was chasing you have to show themselves.
Your powers… Were working? Right? You felt your hands warm instead of the normal cold but that was fine, that happened all the time in the warm weather! But… The wind was chilly in your face and the nighttime clouds were blocking out what little light there was in this alleyway. Running through it, your heart was beating faster than ever… That couldn’t be… A wall? But you saw the street not a few seconds ago! No, no, no, no… The person chasing you must have known, that’s why they hadn’t shown themselves.
While you thought that, you reached the wall that spelled out your doom, you were going to touch it when something made you turn around. A shadow, larger than you or the buildings that trapped you inside this dark box. You wanted to scream, you had to scream, but your voice was only a whisper.
You tried to focus on the figure, it looked… Familiar, was it…? No, it couldn’t be. He was dead, you looked him in the eyes as the demons dragged his screaming body into the depths of the underworld.
- Child. - Your father spoke, his voice echoing and bouncing between the walls and reaching your ears. This man was not here, it was impossible.
After years of him trying to get your powers into him. Your father, attempted something you wouldn’t have wished upon anybody, he had attempted to rip your soul from your body and cast it down into the underworld where then he would’ve been free to do whatever he wanted with your body to extract your metamutation.
It was only by the efforts of Zatanna and the other members of the Justice League Dark, they were able to stop your father before your soul was banished from this realm. Unfortunately the demons were not going to go back empty handed, since your father was the one holding the cursed book the hellspawn latched onto their anchor like piranhas to a wounded animal. His screams and pleas to take you instead of him still kept you up at night.
All that crossed your mind as you watched the man who was supposed to love and care for your well-being walk slowly towards you, knife in hand like he was ready to take his revenge right here and now.
You brought your hands up and tried to launch your ice rays to his feet but instead all came out of your hands a slow and steady dribble of water.
- No. - You whispered
- Yes. - He replied, a grin on his face you could hear in the silence of the night.
- No, no, no, get away. - You pleaded in your hushed voice - Someone help me.
- No one is coming to help you. - His voice grated your ears.
- No, that’s not true - You said as he started to sprint towards you. - Help me, please, someone HELP- You woke up with a start. - me?
It was a dream, a nightmare actually, and you were now sitting up looking at your girlfriend’s worried face. Zatanna lightly touched your shoulders, getting your attention.
You threw yourself at her, crying.
- I had the dream again. - You said between sobs
- Mi ghiacciolo… - She whispered the nickname patting your back to make you feel better. - You’re okay now. We’re together.
As you began to calm down you opened your eyes and looked at the dark room, it was… Snowing? Inside?
- Oh Zee, I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to… - You started to apologize before Zatanna pulled back and smiled that mischievous smile that she knew made you blush.
- No need to be sorry baby, this just means I get to cuddle you harder now. - Slowly you two began to lay down again and she assumed her position as the little spoon and pulled the covers over you two. - Do you want to… Talk about it?
- Not really. - This has been a recurring dream every few nights since she rescued you. - What were you dreaming about?
Zatanna started telling you about her dream, seemed as energetic and lovely as the woman talking to you. But after a moment she stopped and hmmd.
- Hmm - She said, looking around at all the snowflakes starting to fall.
- What is it, Zee? - You looked down at her laying on your chest, she looked up and smiled.
- I think I need visuals for this. - She said with determination. - Yreve ekalfwons sllet a yrots
With the spell uttered you watched in amazement as the snowflakes floated up to the ceiling and began to play a shadow puppet-like little theater as your girlfriend told the tale.
You hugged her tight and pulled the covers up to be as warm as possible while her crazy dream played out in your ceiling. Her voice, with a slight rasp from sleep and with a bit of the italian accent she hid during the day, lulled you into sleep.
Zatanna looked up when your breathing evened out and you started to lightly snore.
- I hope I can be there when every nightmare happens. - She whispered, the snowflakes beginning to descend and float out the crack in the window. Zatanna kissed your cheek, praying that you could rest, before succumbing to her own sleep as well.

Summary: You had a bad depressive episode, fortunately your boyfriend was there to cheer you up
A/N: Hiiii, I know this is a weird one to post but I just had one of the worst depressive episodes ever and after a long shower, this came out. It helped me to write out everything with my comfortiest character, I hope you enjoy it! DPFT 4 is coming I just needed to get this out of me first.
PS: This was written in, like, two hours not proofread at all Sorry!
Nightwing knew the second he got the notification on his mask, to drop everything and go back to your place. He gave you that for this specific reason and he would not disappoint when you actually used it. But first, he made a quick-stop.
After carefully opening the front door to the apartment and laying the bags he brought on the counter, he found you curled up on the couch, tear-stained cheeks staring into nothing, not even registering that he had arrived. This was a particularly bad depressive-episode and he knew that this would be difficult, but Dick Grayson isn’t one to leave when things are hard.
You felt the end of the couch dip slightly, you didn’t even remember calling him. Way inside your own mind to remember much but the little button with his symbol on it was in your hand. So that explained it.
- You came - You said, voice quiet still not meeting his eyes. You didn’t think he’d come, he has a whole city to protect, you’re far less important than the city. No one would notice if you just disappeared.
- I did. - He said scooching a little closer - What made you think I wouldn’t? - His tone was light, wanting you to open up but not pressuring either.
- I don’t know, I just… Thought you had more important things. I don’t want you to drop everything when I’m sad, I’ll be fine. - You said, still keeping your voice low, not trusting yourself to not burst into tears.
That when he decided to try and interlace your fingers together, when you didn’t push him away he kissed your fingers.
- You’re not just sad, and it’s the least I could do, you’ve been with me for so many of my worst moments I’m honored you called me.
- But, the city. You just left it alone, I can’t be more important than this place you just- - You started to ramble, repeating yourself, falling deeper and deeper. He saw this happening and put his other on top of yours, placing it on top of his heart. Grounding you as you felt his calm heartbeat.
- You ARE important to me, you are important to so many people. The city can exist without me, but I don’t know if I can without you - He said honestly and that broke through, you threw yourself on him sobbing and holding him for dear life, he still smelled like his cologne even though he’d been out fighting crime for a while. The smell brought you comfort. - You want to tell me what’s got you like this. - He spoke quietly into your ear holding you tightly, his arms protecting you from anything.
You told him about your day, and how you hadn’t been taking your meds for a couple days since they ran out and you didn’t have the energy to get more. Throughout it you never let go of him, he stayed still and listened intently, only letting out a low-hum when you mentioned your meds.
- Do you feel better? - Dick asked softly - Or do I need to bring out my secret weapon? - He said with a little more joy, he knew that when you got it all out of yourself you were more susceptible to his games.
- What did you bring? - You said, a little smile forming. You knew he never half-assed his attempts to cheer you up, so of course he brought something. Even though just his presence was enough.
- It’s a surprise. - You pulled yourself out of his chest and pouted. You both knew he couldn’t resist it. So he covered his eyes, not wanting to fall prey to your charm.
- No fair. - you nudged his shoulder, he chuckled. Dick uncovered his eyes and smiled at you.
- I’m gonna prepare the surprise. Are you okay with picking a movie for us? - You knew what he was asking, he was asking if you needed him to stay with you some more. But you were better now that Dick had returned home, so you nodded.
After a few minutes you put on a musical for both of you to watch, and he returned to the living room. Balancing two cups of hot chocolate on one hand and two plates of pancakes on the other, all while humming a circus song. He really looks like a balancing act from the circus, or the beginning of a clown act if you didn’t help him.
- Grayson! You’re gonna drop them if you try this any longer - You lightly scolded him before taking the plates.
- I’d never put innocent pancakes on the line for a joke! - He retorted with a fake offended look.
- Pancakes? - You looked at the plates. - but it’s 10pm.
- You have school tomorrow? - He asked with a smirk - We’re both adults! We can eat whatever we want whenever we want.
- You’re right. - You said with a smile.
- I know.
You two sat down, ate your pancakes and drank your hot chocolates. It was perfect. By the end of the movie you felt yourself start to fall asleep, you held on a little longer just to see the ending. You started to cuddle closer to Dick and he to you. Eventually the movie ended and Dick saw you were fighting sleep so he decided to carry you to bed, he changed into his sleep clothes and got into bed with you. Wrapping his arms around you.
Before sleep could take you, a question popped into your head.
- You didn’t actually leave Blüdhaven alone did you? - You knew he must’ve left someone at least on lookout. But in your depressive state, you didn’t even think about it.
- I did not. - He answered - The Titans are protecting it.
- All of them? - He nodded - Isn’t that a bit overkill?
- So I could spend more time with you? Never. - You kissed him on the cheek for that response.
After he said that, you felt like you actually were wanted. He actually liked you. You actually had someone who looked forward to seeing you. And that felt warm, and you let yourself sleep in his arms.
If, for some unknown reason, you read all my other posts, you'd know that Nina was my favorite character out of the bunch... And now... The Bride has taken that spot, so I don't use curse words
I'm Brazilian, so I know some... Colorful words to describe my feelings on Nina's death. But I'll try not to.
First things first, Nina's backstory was sooo saaaad. Her mother abandoning her? She didn't even try to love her daughter, I can kind of understand that she had her worries and Nina's life was not the easiest to live. So maybe turning off her machines as a baby would have a mercy, but then again her father was such an amazing guy for always trying to keep her in his life, but then again he could have been just doing that so that he could say he had developed ways to extend human life, using his daughter as guinea pig... I don't know... That is going a bit too philophical for my sobbing brain.
The opening with Eric was nice, I started to enjoy his weird monologues, poor cab driver though.
The commandos sneaking in was fun, they kiiinda cheated by putting a lens flare on the computer but they showed it again at end so I'm not mad
Ilana's plan... I still can't wrap my head around it? So Circe was telling the truth? So she hires Clayface to take the doctor's place and say that Circe is telling the truth and part of that plan was having the commandos be sent back but not before Flagg stays to find out the truth and call off the mission? I feel like she had a lot of luck in this plan... Maybe I need to think on it a bit, and maybe someone to explain what her end goal was.
Anyway the Bride killing her was incredibly satisfying, though I would have pulled the trigger a couple more times just to make sure she doesn't come back, but she's the professional, not me.
Oh! I really liked that in this universe Mary Shelly wrote Mathilda instead of Frankstein! Just a little easter egg that opens up many possibilities
I hope Superman can be just as good if not better than this show! It was a very good start in my opinion, I won't forgive James Gunn for Nina'e death until we get a solo Nightwing series and movie
Hemplo!!! You know what time it is!! Eric hate time!! I jest, but... Well, let's go into it. Spoiler below the cut, as always.
So! This was... An episode, meant to shed more light into Eric's character. But I'm left at the end feeling a little robbed. The fight was suuuuper cool, I love Clayface fights and Flagg losing makes me nervous. I mean... I know he will appear in Superman but maybe the photo was staged? I don't know.... Peacemaker came back from worse I guess.
Back to Eric, he serves his purpose and I suppose I understand his actions after this ep, he is deluded to the point of killing his only friend and lying to her dog so he can go find "his" bride. But that doesn't mean I like him now.
A lot less Nina this ep... I hope the next one is about her.
The Commandos fighting was super awesome! Phosphorus was a highlight for me, still find it amazing having an actual villain as part of the team.
Confirmation about themischera makes me suuuper excited for Wonder Woman!!!! I love her so much, and hope we get an animated series about her, can't wait for Paradise Lost too!
Aaanyway. I'm sorry this one is more negative, but now that we know Season 2 is coming we can celebrate for more time with these characters!!

Summary: Being a firefighter in metropolis is hard work, sometimes you need to ask for help from your boyfriend.
A/N: I'm back! Sorry it took so long, this one was sitting in my drafts at, like, 80% done for a couple months. Didn't have the energy to finish it :/.... But now I'm back, and I'll do a few requests before getting back to my series
As soon as you got the call you guys knew it was a big one. You’ve been doing this job long enough that you could tell when a fire was gonna take a lot of effort to get under control. Metropolis was especially flammable this time of year, summer brought warm and clear skies but it also dried the air and lower levels of humidity made it so a spark could start a fire.
Not even the nighttime was safe, it was around 23:30 your station got the alert, and you all got prepared speeding out in the truck hoping to get to the building in time.
—---
A few tense silent minutes later your team got to the building and realized this was gonna be a long night. You immediately turned to your captain,
- I’m going in. - You said simply
- Not without backup you won’t - She looked to one of your colleagues - Jackson! Go with L/N
You smiled a tight smile at Jackson, he always was the one that got into these situations with you.
- Try and keep up - You said picking up the oxygen tank
- Dude, you’re always the one that slows me down - he shot back. You two always did little jokes like this to hype each-other up before you went into a building.
Both of you turned back to the burning building getting ready to go inside and search for victims. Not before you subtly pressed a little button inside your pocket. This fire felt like it could turn into a catastrophe very fast.
Inside the building you and Jackson went through it like so many times before; getting people out, breaking down obstacles and making a path so you didn’t get lost. That was… Until.
- Jackson! Need a hand! - You yelled out, the fire was roaring around you and the smoke was starting to thicken. A piece of the wall had fallen in front of a door and you hear a little boy inside crying out for help.
- Help! Please! My mom isn’t doing well! - You heard him cry out between coughs.
- Just hang on kid, we’re almost there. - You swung your ax again and tried to muscle through. Still not enough. - Jackson! - You screamed again, you saw his blurry figure move next to you
- On three! - He screamed and counted. On three you both threw your bodies onto the piece of debris finally getting through the door.
You clocked the kid and his mom, the mom wasn’t moving except for a few coughs, the child looked no more than five years old, scared out of his mind and coughing badly.
- Get the kid, I got the mom. - Jackson said, you nodded and knelt to pick up the kid
- Let’s go buddy, we’re getting out of here. - You said trying to sound comforting.
- What about my mom? - He asked.
- My friend over there has her, you’ll both make it out. - You picked him up. - We’re going, okay? - He gave you a small nod and you tucked his head on your shoulder, doing your best to shield him from more smoke than he had already inhaled.
You turned around to see the silhouette of Jackson walking out carrying out the mom, making your way towards the exit your foot went through one of the boards, getting stuck.
The child screamed at the sudden drop but you assured him everything was fine and started to take your foot off the hole. The smoke was starting to thicken and your fire protection outfit was starting to get warm, you could feel yourself getting tired but you had to keep going. You could see the corridor that led to the exit. This boy had to get out, he had to be with his mom. So, with all the strength you could muster… You grabbed your ax, bringing it down on the trap you were stuck in! Finally getting it out and running towards the exit.
At some point you must’ve holstered the ax since both your hands were clutching the little boy, but you were on auto-pilot just gunning it for the exit.
When you smelled the fresh air you were able to open your eyes fully and see the ambulances outside, a paramedic met you half-way. You dropped the kid off, after a bit of coercing the little boy to let go, you looked back at the building. The flames getting bigger by the second and you knew there were more people inside, but before you could make the decision to go back in. You saw him.
- Superman!
Clark Kent, currently Superman, hoping to go see his partner soon
- C’mon little buddy, there’s no need to be scared - Clark spoke softly with arms stretched out
The cat, Teddles as he had learned from the little girl crying below, was still a little scared, understandable since he was on top of the tallest tree in Metropolis Park. Clark smiled and spoke.
- You’re gonna be fine, Teddles. - The cat’s head perked up at the mention of its name. - Yes, Teddles, come on
The cat, without warning jumped into Superman's arms, only because he was indestructible that he didn’t get scratched.
Clark swooped down holding the cat.
- Here you go - He said to the little girl, who was now hugging her cat and wiping her tears - Keep a better eye on him next time.
- Say “Thank you Superman” - Her mother said in a soft tone
- Thank you Superman - the little girl said opening a small smile
- You’re welcome - He said, kneeling down and the cat a couple scritches, poor thing must have been on that tree for hours.
- Thank you Superman, I didn’t want to stay out this late but she was really worried about the cat. - The mom said to Clark - I’m sure you didn’t expect to be picking cats from trees at this hour…
- It happens more often than you’d thi- - A beep, no multiple beeps. Three short followed by three long, in a repeating pattern. SOS! - Are you guys okay? - He asked the two, after a short nod Clark took off at super speed flying, trying to hear where you were.
He knew that your job was dangerous, handling fire everyday was hardly a “safe job” but he wasn’t one to talk about safety. So when he managed to make you take a little clicker with you, just in case you needed his help, he was always on the lookout for it. You hardly used it, something about him already having his hands so full all the time and you being able to handle your tasks without a “super-crutch” (your air quotes). But you both knew you wanted to impress him.
He began to make a lap of Metropolis trying to locate the sound’s origin. He found it.
The building was an inferno, he had put out bigger fires sure, but this one had people inside it. He started to look into the building trying to find you, when he heard your voice.
- Superman!
He smiled wide before landing beside you, you had a line of ash around your nose and mouth probably from wearing the oxygen mask and spoke.
- Is everyone out? - you shook your head
- The higher floors still have people, our ladder can’t get close enough.
- I’ll get them - He nodded - Will you..
- We’ll get the fire under control - You finished his sentence before looking around and sneaking a quick kiss on his cheek. - For luck.
He blushed a bit and took off, disappearing into the burning building.
Inside the building Clark began to go through each floor with precision, break down doors, grab whoever is inside, get out, get in, repeat. It took him a while but with your help getting the flames down he was able to get everyone with only minor injuries.
After getting everyone out Superman began working on the fire itself, flying around the building so fast he was creating a vacuum in the middle. Sucking the air from the building, putting out the flames. He heard you telling everyone to back away, knowing the effects of his speed, not long after the building was left as a giant charred and smoking.
Clark stared at the smoking building for a while looking for whatever had caused it to go up in flames when the sound of your voice calming down an old lady cut through his focus. He smiled, the fire was already out and maybe you had some insight.
Landing behind you the old lady that was sitting on the stretcher widened her eyes at his appearance.
- I’m fine, dear, I think you should take care of him. - The old lady said to you, he saw you tilt your head in a little confusion but still nodded and turned around. The old lady’s stretcher getting wheeled out by a paramedic
- I don’t think he needs any help. - You chuckled when you looked at him, reaching up and wiping some ash from his face. - There we go.
He smiled a bit at the interaction.
- Lieutenant L/N. - He said in a semi-serious voice
- Superman. - You replied in the same curt tone
- Do you know what might have caused this? - He asked
You shook your head but gave him a smile.
- No, but I think the reporters coming will probably be able to get more information. - Your smile turned into a smirk. - I’m sure Ms. Lane would be delighted to have the byline all to herself.
- She wouldn’t dare. - He smiled back. - But you’re right, maybe the reporters will have better luck.
You looked behind him and met his eyes.
- Well? Are you gonna ask questions? Or Answer them? - You nodded your head to the news vans driving up to the smoking building. Clark looked back and smiled.
- See you in a bit. - He chuckled before taking off.
Lieutenant Y/N L/N, Firefighter, dreading this next part
You were dreading this next part, hearing questions you couldn’t possibly know the answer to, being flashed by cameras and filmed by a lot more and while having to keep a cool head even though you were still high on adrenaline.
The only saving grace was the cute reporter from the Daily Planet and his best friends would be here as well, their questions weren’t easier to answer but you knew they wouldn’t take your words out of context and plaster some lie on the front page.
You adjusted your uniform and wiped some ash from your face, taking a deep breath, you went to your captain.
- News vans are here - You said in a tone more akin to “a caravan full of flaming bears are here”
- Damn they’re fast, can you..? - She looked at you, letting out a resigned sigh as you nodded, you knew she’d tell you to handle them. But you could dream.
- Yeah, do you have anything for me to tell them?
- Tenants think it’s a gas leak, apparently it was supposed to be fixed tomorrow but… Well - She gestured to the building.
- Late night snack?
- Late night snack.
- Alright, that should be enough. Don’t leave without me, boss. - You said as you started making your way to the modest number of reporters coming, it was almost midnight! Don’t they ever sleep?
The police had arrived at some point and already established a perimeter, not allowing the reporters to come closer to the injured or the hot rock that was once livable. You touched one of the officers on the shoulder, asking to be let through, he gave you a sympathetic look before letting you get to the journalists.
—--------
The whole process must’ve taken, like, half an hour but it felt like an eternity. The same questions being asked, some of them were more invasive than others, the only saving grace were the two reporters and the cameraman from the Daily Planet.
- Lieutenant L/N. Lois Lane with the Daily Planet - You heard Lois say making you turn your head to her, you could see Clark beside her with a note pad while she was using her phone to record your voice and Jimmy was behind them with a camera. - What kind of precautions do you think people should take so this doesn’t happen again?
You smiled a bit, these were the kind of questions you want to be asked but they don’t make for good headlines, so everybody skips them. Not the only two reporters that you know have ears and don’t have to repeat questions.
After the round of questions, the police started to usher the press away. You decided to answer one more question, from the cute reporter with the glasses.
He blushed, and you realized you had said that out loud.
- I mean… I’ll answer one more question before going back. - You cleared your throat.
Clark stepped up, adjusting his glasses in the most adorable way possible.
- What was it like, working with an all powerful and strong being, like Superman? - he asked, a grin on his lips. The man didn’t like to talk about his other life most times, but you could see he wanted to put you on the spot.
You rolled your eyes but answered dutifully, wiping the ash from your face.
- Well, he could have arrived sooner couldn’t he? - You smirked, looking at him from the side. He narrowed his eyes at you, just at the corner of your vision - But this way you can see that the Metropolis Fire Department is always there for you!
You finished with a little ad for the department, just like the chief taught you. You gave the crowd of reporters one last scan before your eyes settled on Clark, he was writing in his notepad probably in the shorthand way he always used while in interviews, he tried to teach you how to read it once but it was way too difficult for your brain. Clark looked up and saw you staring at him, he gave you a small genuine smile before a few cops started to usher out the reporters.
You saw them walking away and couldn’t help but let out a small chuckle at the sight of Clark’s neck having ash over it, clearly a spot he had missed when changing.
