Decided to post the drabbles/ficlets I do for the Fanfiction Library Discord server on here. I don't have a home for most of them right now, but want them to see the light of day. 🤣
Their rules are that it can't be more than one Discord message, so that's 1999 characters or less.
This one's prompt was: "Where does your truth end?"
Tears streamed down Ginny's cheeks. She swiped her arm across her face and whispered to the floor, "Where does your truth end?"
"What kind of question is that?" Tom snapped, then immediately spoke again before she could answer, "My truth ends where the lies begin, of course."
She watched him warily, waiting for the pain to come. It always hurt being around him now. He used to be nice, he used to understand her. At least, he said he understood her. She wondered now, watching the handsome boy pace up and down the hall, whether he had ever meant anything kind he'd ever said to her. Knowing now how much his truth hurts, she doubted it.
Tom leaned in close suddenly, pressing her into the wall. "Do you want me to lie to you?"
This was the closest he'd ever been to her, and the first time she'd ever actually felt him. He felt like the muggle balloon her father had bought her once; seemingly solid until touched, and then so fragile and easy to burst. She didn't want him to go. Nodding, Ginny looked up into his dark eyes.
"I love you," he said, with no emotion and no meaning in his voice. There was no smile or frown. The anger was gone from his face. Here was the real truth of Tom Riddle: she meant nothing to him.
Ginny's lower lip trembled and her sore eyes overflowed again. Then a sob burst from her, violent and painful. She wrapped her arms around her chest and sank to her knees at his feet.
Tom said nothing, did nothing, for several long minutes. As her sobs slowly subsided, as she struggled to contain herself, he turned and walked away.
The next day she flushed his diary and ran, knowing all the while that she could never truly escape from him. He was inside her, in her thoughts, in her very soul. He had granted her wish; she would never be alone again.
