These mouthwatering doughnuts combine apple pie flavors into a glazed, sweet treat. They're ideal for breakfast or dessert, with a hint of cinnamon, soft diced apples, a crumbly topping, and a maple glaze.
Ingredients: 1 cup all-purpose flour. 1/2 cup granulated sugar. 1 tsp baking powder. 1/2 tsp baking soda. 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon. 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg. 1/4 tsp salt. 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce. 1/4 cup buttermilk. 1 egg. 1 tsp vanilla extract. 1/2 cup diced apples peeled and cored. For the crumb topping:. 1/4 cup all-purpose flour. 2 tbsp granulated sugar. 2 tbsp cold unsalted butter cut into small cubes. For the maple glaze:. 1 cup powdered sugar. 2 tbsp pure maple syrup. 2-3 tbsp milk.
Instructions: Preheat your oven to 350F 175C and grease a doughnut pan. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. In another bowl, combine the applesauce, buttermilk, egg, and vanilla extract. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Fold in the diced apples. Fill each doughnut cavity about 2/3 full with the batter. To make the crumb topping, combine the flour and sugar in a small bowl. Add the cold butter cubes and use a fork or your fingers to create a crumbly mixture. Sprinkle the crumb topping over each doughnut batter-filled cavity. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into a doughnut comes out clean. While the doughnuts are baking, prepare the maple glaze by whisking together the powdered sugar, maple syrup, and enough milk to reach your desired glaze consistency. Once the doughnuts are done baking, remove them from the oven and allow them to cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Drizzle the maple glaze over the cooled doughnuts. Enjoy your homemade Apple Pie Doughnuts with Maple Glaze and Crumb Topping!
