I gotta be honest, hen and karen really disappointed me this episode. like, seriously, you've been fostering for years, you are both smart women, a kid stuck in the foster system with potential issues (including being nonverbal, possibly violent/aggressive reactions, or not immediately trusting/attaching to you) should NOT be a fucking surprise. less than a day and you're already calling it?
[also diedra talking about her right in front of her is definitely 'believable but shitty' as a social worker]
[also they got two different people - athena and maddie - to break the rules for them to get this info]
them listening to her past and deciding she's worth it because "she's trying to protect us" is such absolute bullshit. yeah, finding out about her past to help her - that makes sense and fits, because knowing her past does let them address her issues in a more helpful way, but the way they overall framed it, that was not what it was about to start with.
absolution, jfc. I get it was a tv show and therefore only so much screentime, but a newborn/baby vs a nine year old is a totally different set of circumstances and needs, and they really should have discussed it.
