It's day 5 of #AutismAwarenessMonth! The reason for the higher diagnosis rate in men and boys isn't clear. Some theorize that genetic differences between genders make men naturally more susceptible to hereditary disorders in general, others believe that women are better at hiding their symptoms. These two differing opinions are important. One implies that there are fewer women on the spectrum, but the other... The other implies that there could very well be just as many women and girls affected as men and boys, but that those women and girls are not being diagnosed for one reason or another. This is why screening is important. So if you have doubts, the slightest worry, have your child screened. Autism is NOT a disability, it is a different point of view. I will repeat that phrase until I run out of air. Louder for those in the back: AUTISM IS NOT A DISABILITY, IT IS A DIFFERENT POINT OF VIEW. #autismawareness #differentPOV #earlyscreening https://www.instagram.com/p/Bv4JGDAgkLM/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=oe2dq36zj1mj
