Since Thursday our politicians have been trying to rush the 'Kids Online Safety Act' (KOSA) and SCREEN acts alongside 15 other bills through committee in order to censor the internet while lying about it being for child safety. It was such laws that allowed the UK, Australia, and Europe to become the hellholes they are where youre arrested for mean posts.
Sadly, our same leaders are also trying to repeal Section 230 alongside these bills. What Section 230 does, in simple terms, is categorize stuff you make online as part of your freedom of speech.
If they aren't stopped they will strip that from you. Be wary.
privacy concerns and trojan horse aside, i hate how condescending and nonsensical the government and the media have been towards young people regarding the ‘under 16s social media ban’ in the uk. banning kids from using social media, but plastering them all over the news and social media? a 15 year old not being allowed to watch youtube when they might be revising for gcses/mocks? labour wanting to give 16 year olds the right to vote, yet not allowing them to form opinions from other people via social media and making them rely on highly propagandised news sources? banning social media platforms when there’s barely leisure activities young people can do without adults calling the police? 16-17 years olds having the right to take driving lessons and join the army, but not being allowed to scroll on tiktok in the evening? taking away lifelines for disabled, queer and isolated youth? it’s so obvious that this was never about protecting children.
In 2026, make it your new year's resolution to call your legislators
call 202-224-3121! Tell them to OPPOSE age verification AND digital ID laws!! And tell them to PROTECT section 230! If you don't want an Orwellian nightmare to come true.
Also, this form emails and calls your reps for you!!
All of the bad internet bills. One website.
And if you're too shy to call, you can FAX THEM!!!!
Send a fax to anywhere in the U.S. or Canada for free.
—NO to KOSA
—NO to Section 230 reform
—NO to age verification laws
—NO to the SCREEN Act
—NO to digital ID laws (ASAA)
If they really wanted to protect children, they would pass comprehensive digital privacy legislation limiting what information companies are allowed to collect. INSTEAD, they're enabling companies to collect MORE information.
If you're not in the USA, stay up-to-date with legislation from your country regarding internet censorship and surveillance, because the USA is not the only country rolling these horrible bills out.
In the unlikely event that people want more context as to why the UK is pushing so hard for Age Verification and Digital ID, the short answer is Larry Ellison (Oracle).
Slightly longer answer: Larry is good pals with former Prime Minister Tony Blair and has donated hundreds of millions of pounds to the Tony Blair Institute, which purports to be a political Think Tank, but is essentially an Oracle Dealership.
Tony Blair met last year with sitting Cabinet members and pressured them to meet with representatives of both Oracle and The Ellison Institute - which they did 29 times in 9 months, including the Chancellor, the Health Secretary and the Science Minister.
So a former Prime Minister is pressuring the elected government to force UK citizens to give their biometric data, health information and personal correspondence to a Tech Billionaire specialising in profiting from data farming, who just happens to have given millions of pounds to that former Prime Minister’s “Think Tank”…
Bearing in mind this is the same Larry Ellison who has stated outright that he wishes to use “AI and constant surveillance to create a society where citizens will be on their best behaviour”.
This was never in the manifesto for the current government. Nobody voted for this. And the implications are totalitarian.
So no, it has nothing to do with child safety, immigration controls or counter-terrorism. These are all various fig leaves being deployed to conceal an agenda of state control and the freeing up of citizen’s data for harvesting by private corporations.
Apologies if I have explained that badly. I am still very sick. 🤒

California lawmakers are fast-tracking A.B. 1709—a sweeping bill that would ban anyone under 16 from using social media and force every user, regardless of age, to verify their identity before accessing social platforms.
That means that under this bill, all Californians would be required to submit highly sensitive government-issued ID or biometric information to private companies simply to participate in the modern public square. In the name of “safety,” this bill would destroy online anonymity, expose sensitive personal data to breach and abuse, and replace parental decision-making with state-mandated censorship.
A.B. 1709 has already passed out of the Assembly Privacy and Judiciary Committees with nearly unanimous support. Its next stop is the Assembly Appropriations Committee, followed by a floor vote—likely within the next week.
I will keep this post updated in the comments (reblogs). Follow post for updates.
