Eye lining
Look at these beauties! Printing the cards is always a highlight.
These are all made up for my cube. I wrote down 192 unique cards. So far, 78 are illustrated. At this pace, I'm going to be finished next year :P
As seems to be the constant these days - here's another Tyler picture I drew, digitally lined, and colored.
Friendly reminder to all artists, new and old: Your art has value.
I’ve been doing a college drawing class and I have a classmate who’s been comparing their work to our college professor and other classmates, like myself, even though my classmate just started learning art, and it really disheartens me to hear a new artist compare themselves, so I want to show this to anyone who wants to draw but is afraid to start because they feel their work isn’t as nice/good/pretty as someone else’s: YOUR ART HAS VALUE BECAUSE YOU MADE IT. Sure, it may not be pretty as someone else, but pretty artwork takes time. No artist starts off drawing perfectly. To give you a couple of examples, I’m going to swallow my fear and show off some of my in progress works:
These are some Twisted Wonderland digital sketches that I work on when I have down time from my college classes because it’s relaxing and it gives me something to work on. Note that NONE of these are done but it shows a touch of different processes. For clarification, two are for my Yuu OC “Kora” (based on Persephone, see this post for why) and a couple of these come from fan drawings for @avionvadion’s Once Upon a Dream fanfic.
The ones that are significantly cleaner have way more layers than the sketches. I’m going to show case all the layers from the Malleus and Eleanora Quince (avionvadion’s OC) piece to show case the majority of layers I have on Procreate, not including the layers inside groups.
I have test layers, sketch layers, template groups in case something goes awry, and this is STILL not done. I have eye expressions that I’m testing out and Malleus’s mouth is only there because I needed it for placement. I haven’t settled on a malevolent smile, a panicked look, or some other expression yet. And I’ve been working on these pieces for a while, alternating to whichever one my brain wants to do to relax during my breaks from studying.
My point is this: Please do not compare your art to someone else’s. Your art has value because YOU MADE IT. It may not be the prettiest art in the world, but I feel we live in a world that focuses on the end product so much that we forget about the time and effort put into the process and end up devaluing our own work. I still have my childhood scribbles from over 20 years ago because my parents kept them. Are they going to end up in a museum or be beloved by the world? No, but they’re still important because they were part of my learning process (without those scribbles I wouldn’t be able to draw like I can now) and they’re valuable simply because I made them.
My art has value because I gave it the value, not the other way around. Likewise, to all artists, novice or not, your art has value because you made it, which gives it value. Your art not pleasing the masses or having mistakes doesn’t mean you are more or less valuable as an artist. It just means that maybe you have to put more effort into learning the skill and that’s okay. So please, please, don’t look over at other people’s art and get discouraged! You are making your own path and just because someone is further along on their separate path, it doesn’t mean you should give up and stop making your art.
