Heya, I hope you've been well. I really like your art style, especially the patterns used with most of your Encanto art. Where, may I ask, did you base your art style off of?

Hi there, Anon! I've been doing alright, thanks for asking! („• ֊ •„) <3

I base my art style off local and traditional art, foreign cartoons, and pretty much anywhere else, especially if they're detail-heavy and elaborately patterned. I'll just give 2 examples of this plus 1 artist who really influenced my style.

In my hometown in the Philippines, we hold the Dinagyang festival (language: Hiligaynon; etymology: dagyang means to make merry, so dinagyang means merrymaking). Here are some Dinagyang "warriors" and their costumes that I absolutely adore:

I also take inspiration from our textiles and weaving patterns. What you see in the pic below is langkit (handwoven fabric strips originating from the indigenous Maranao people in the southern Philippines). I'm not part of this indigenous group, so out of respect, I don't incorporate their traditional designs into my art. I only very loosely adopt the geometric style.

Lastly, I think the artist most responsible for my love for details in character design is Jorge R. Gutierrez (El Tigre, The Book of Life, Maya & The Three). El Tigre was one of my fave shows growing up and I just fell in love with his Mexican folk culture inspired designs. Even his goofiest looking characters still look so damn beautiful.
