Something I'm totally confused about with SNK is what rank Levi actually is? Like, I watched the anime online (which clearly had multiple different translators across the episodes) and they all translated his rank as 'captain' but here on tumblr I'm seeing him being referred to as 'corporal' or 'lance-corporal' a lot? Which is quite a bit different. :S This is bugging me way more than it should for some reason so if you could explain that'd be amazing. :D

Yeah, I think it's a translator thing. I mean, I stick with 'captain' because 'Captain Ravioli' has more of a ring to it than 'corporal.' I don't think anyone will mind whichever one you choose, though! :)

Hi again! Have you read Sam Copperbadge's Discworld fics over on Dreamwidth? I saw your Lady Margolotta post on the Discworld tag and if you like Vetinari/Margolotta then he's written a great fic called The Patrician's Papers (and if you don't like that ship you will by the end of the fic).

But... they *do* have the option… women are allowed in the military. If you mean they *didn’t* in the past, then sure, fair point, and some women probably felt powerless because of this, but that’s not the case now.

In general I agree with you though… things can still be sexist even if they overall benefit you. That’s why I think it’s worthless arguing about whether something is due to ‘benevolent misogyny’ or ‘male disposability’… just look at who’s actually harmed (be that men or women) and try and stop that harm from occurring rather than arguing about the ‘underlying cause’.

yes, but looking at who's "actually harmed" gets to be a slippery slope, since virtually every gender role and expectation has its own set of drawbacks and disadvantages. both are harmed; it just may be that in one given situation, one may be harmed more than the other. we shouldn't focus primarily on one gender's unfair treatment because it is/looks worse; it's how we got in this mess in the first place.
