Discworld Compilation - 2015

@marodeur and @rotestelefon got a discworld crush, resulting in these two cosplays. We had a really good time reading the novels and wearing this duo. Also we thought, the HavieLotta community really deserves a little more love. Havelock Vetinari by @marodeur

imagine if you will, a discworld Suits au (sort of) - vetinari does a summer internship with margolotta's highly successful law firm in uberwald. they spark off each other, intellectually impress each other, and have a frickton of ~ tension ~ but nothing happens between them because vetinari's only a kid and margolotta's, well, his boss, so at the end of the summer he leaves to go back to his city years later, margolotta hears about this new law firm springing up, taking on bigger and bigger cases, with the reputation of having never lost a single one. and who's spearheading it? vetinari of course, albeit a little older with a slightly more expensive suit and goatee'd now. margolotta visits ankh-morpork for a case and they have dinner, only to find five years hasn't dissipated the tension at all. are they now doomed to be rivals, or can they be allies?? has vetinari just stolen all of margolotta's trade secrets to use himself, or did she gain as much from their dalliance as he did?? are they in love, or sleeping together, or both, or just platonic affectionate frenemies that enjoy a good snuggle and a crossword?? was this whole au post just an excuse to get you to imagine them in expensive formalwear walking in slow-mo to the tune of "greenback boogie"?? probably.

as much as I ship them romantically and sexually, I can't help but absolutely adore the idea of asexual!vetinari and pansexual!margolotta as super close tactile bffs who just really enjoy each others' company and actively help spread the scandalous rumour that they're sleeping together because a. it discourages annoying suitors and b. its better for their reputations than admitting that they spend most of their evenings together sprawled on a sofa, drinking expensive wine, playing thud and commiserating over work

Hi again! Have you read Sam Copperbadge's Discworld fics over on Dreamwidth? I saw your Lady Margolotta post on the Discworld tag and if you like Vetinari/Margolotta then he's written a great fic called The Patrician's Papers (and if you don't like that ship you will by the end of the fic).

oh my days "the patrician's papers" is like the frikken holy grail of the vetinari/margolotta ship its like my favourite fic ever

GOVERNESS OF UBERWALD (though this vaguely confused me because in snuff she was referred to as "ruler of all uberwald" but here vetinari mentions having gone to the low king first because of tradition or whatever which implies she doesn't run the whole show? maybe she's just less pissy about observing social graces than the dwarfs...or maybe it made more sense to go all the way to the dwarfs then to margolotta on the way back? idk)

POLITICAL SLEEPOVERS WITH VETINARI??? (I mean I'm still not sure how I feel about that section because...I actually understood everything they said...so I feel like there is a severe lack of terrifyingly-clever-ness...unless everything they said was just a bluff...but it still felt odd and out of character?)

her stepping off the balcony and doing a dramatic vampire swoop over to the clacks tower

like can you imagine her doing that in a long fluffy pink cardigan with bats embroidered around the cuffs and a nice black skirt and kitten heels and the fire of one rudely awoken because some little shit is being an asswipe burning in her glowing red eyes (because that is what I am imagining and it is awesome)

nearly making poor arthur shit himself by turning up right behind him

her knowing the clacks workers by name and knowing their kids and helping them and giving them frikken birthday presents like she's their bloody aunt or something so they'll all want to help her back

like she's turned into almost the opposite of what vetinari is to his city? he works in coming across as terrifying and having a reputation and using quiet threats as sticks and suggesting things like staying alive are carrots - compared to margolotta who is country-wide respected and actually liked because she helps people, described as "firm but fair", who gets the dwarfs to instantly back the fuck off her turf by making "a few examples" (what did she DO to them?? ugh I really want to know), who steps in swiftly to help out her humans and has their gratitude and trust, who is described as being like an old lady who only has to bang her walking stick on the floor to get instant respect, which at first seems like not a very flattering comparison but really just proves how much power she has

also when you add up everything we've heard about the interaction between her and the low queen (the fucking rubber dress, margolotta being one of the very very few people who knows the low queen's gender which is obvs a HUGE deal) it really does sound like they're pretty good friends

like can you imagine them fistbumping and being like GIRL POWER FUCK YEAH

Havelotta Cat AU please, you awesome thing

It took a little getting used to, the whole tail and fur thing. Not being able to talk - well that wasn’t such an issue; if words were the only way you could get people to do what you wanted then you couldn’t possibly be an effective ruler. She’d long mastered the art of control, and controlling others.

Though it was rather more difficult when you were about a foot tall and fluffy. 

Still, cats had managed to keep the human population under their thumb for centuries through an impressive combination of emotional manipulation and simple threat, so she wasn’t unduly concerned. It could have been far worse.

Her gaze flicked over towards the sleek black feline casually examining the paperwork helpfully fanned out over the desk, extending a paw to sweep one document into a pile then moving on to the next. He felt her eyes upon him and responded with a flick of his tail that she had come to learn meant amusement.

Yes, it could be a lot worse. At least she had company…
