Just watched the S12 finale of PD. It's a far superior finale if compared to the S13 of Fire, which had its moments but was overall meh. PD instead was far more coherent and tight, especially after the build up in 12x20 and the disbandment of the Unit.
I did know how Reid would end, but not how they got there and couldn't honestly guess for most of the episode. It was great seeing Rabbit back as much as having so many of the threads of the season intervowen through the various events and characters, such as the parallel between Voight and Caldera. Hank's attachment to Camille had been central the whole season, often commented upon by Chapman (who couldn't really get the hint there); Caldera has a wife dying of cancer. You can see Hank understanding how he may feel and he plays with it. But while Hank has always gone his own way, Caldera decided to take a different route.
The whole Chapman thing was a waste of time through the season and I do agree that Burzek deserved so much better for their wedding. Even though I get it. As a Burzek fan, I am disappointed. Narratively speaking though, from a more objective perspective, it made sense to conclude with that conversation between Chapman and Voight, which just went to show that she only ever had an idealized version of him in mind and never really got him while Voight was Voight-ing the whole time. A leopard can't change its spots, you know. Hope that's the last we see of her.
I did appreciate the small moments of the wedding we got though. Mack and Disco Bob (so good to see Bob Ruzek being such a doting grandfather) as well as Mack with her fave uncle, Kev. Torres finally finding a bit of peace as he got to church. Cook (you will be missed!) being part of the little family. Trudy being so happy and moved and next to Mouch. Loved to see her work with the Unit during the last two episodes, but this moment was so good and really spoke volumes about her relationship with Kim (and Adam). Wished we had a throwback to that 20 dollars bet from S2, but I knew it would never happen. But I always love a bit of Plouch at weddings! Last but not least, Kim and Adam finally having their happy ending surrounded by the people who matter the most to them. It was a really good way to end a season that, overall, has been really good and so much better than the previous two.
Disco Bob (a person's dad's mii)
Chicago P.D. Season 13 Episode 19
Adam
Awe. Disco Bob.
Oh yeah they are moving.
Adam she don’t want that shit.
He has a point. You go through it so you don’t just carry shit from house to house.
What the fuck was that? Don’t tell me Disco Bob was into some shit.
Oh good. It was sent to him. It wasn’t a homemade video.
PEEPING TOM ALERT
What the fuck? Is he in the hospital? What happened? How’d they get the jump on him? He heard them coming.
I don’t think moving is a good idea right now Adam.
Don’t push yourself Adam.
Lowkey you’re sounding like Disco Bob.
LMAO You wrote the note, it was for you to interpret. You’re the only one who knows what knows car means.
So he can just leave the hospital? How’d he even get there? No way he drove.
Oh they didn’t get the drop on him. He figured out something.
He and Kim are hilarious.
Don’t tell me Disco Bob died.
Okay he didn’t die. But is he dying? Like imminently?
Oh shit yes it’s imminently.
The Case
He’s on to something.
I lowkey like this little video effect. I think it’s cool. But probably better suited for like a movie or something. Not a show.
HEY HE’S THE GUY FROM THE HOTEL I KNOW YOU DON’T KNOW THAT KIM BUT STOP HIM
YES KIM STOP HIM
Oh you know that tape. Your expression changed.
HE REMEMBERED
Carlos be helpful please
Awe. Carlos.
Adam I don’t think you’re good. Probably should’ve stayed in the car.
Miscellaneous
I hate the way Kim says detail. She puts the emphasis on tail instead of de.
How is he just walking into Adam’s room?
12x14 Spoilers - Marie
Holy shit. I am so glad that wasn’t spoiled for me in the slightest.
The raw reaction I had to tonight’s episode is everything. Adam, Bob, Zoe, all of it.
1. Patrick is excellent. He is an excellent actor and just has done everything so, so right this whole season. Wow.
2. Bob. Oh my GOSH I was losing my mind. And when he asked who Adam was? I nearly screamed.
3. Zoe! If this is the last we see of her, I’ll be so, so sad. Cause Adam needs to adopt her. He is so good with kids. So, so good. He really bonded with her. And when she said “what will I do without my dad?” Or something to that effect, his face screamed “I’m thinking the same thing.”
4. Adam going Voight/Al mode on that guy has me in a chokehold. I have a love-hate relationship with that, BUT. When Hank called out for Adam to stop, all I could hear is “you’re not me!” And that hurt so much more.
4 1/2. On another note, I’m proud of Adam for not absolutely strangling that guy in the hospital cause I would’ve. It had to have been HOURS that he was just talking about nothing and everything, cause Hank left to get the plea from Indiana. No way that didn’t take less than two hours, at LEAST. Adam is much stronger than me. I would’ve lost my mind.
5. Kimberly, don’t yell at Adam. He can’t control his dad right now and he’s really trying to figure it out. I love you to death but the way you treat him sometimes pisses me off frfr. He loves you so much and you treat him like this sometimes. Come on, girl.
6. I’m forgetting several things but coming back from that episode, that was one of the top ones this season for me. Wow. All of Adam’s episodes have been wonderful. Blood Bleeds Blue, Zoe and now Marie. All great episodes. Wonderful execution. And I think a huge part of that really does go to Patty for his amazing acting. Wonderful performance. I applaud him, over and over again. He was great in L&O: SVU and he’s great in PD. Especially now. Bravo. 👏
Anyways, that was a great episode and had me invested the entire time. The last few episodes haven’t done that for me. This was wonderful. Absolutely wonderful.
I’m reading a Burzek fic ive never found before, but it involves Disco Bob being a good dad, and like does not compute???
12x10 is truly heartbreaking. Adam dealing with the case and being very clearly affected by what happened to all those children and Zoe, while also finding out about his Disco Bob's health. Man, that's a lot! Hats off to Patty because that was one hell of a performance. You could really feel Adam's utter exhaustion at the end. And kudos to Jack Coleman too. It could have been a hammy affair, but he played it in such a nuanced and delicate way.
