i thought id make a post about this because its been something ive been going through for a while and yeah tumblr is like my own little diary. Also for anyone else in search for information about this procedure.
I'm 16 and last Monday I went for a disc discectomy, I can't actually remember which disc was prolapsed but whatever. This whole problem began about two years ago and i tried various other things to solve it such as physio and an injection. So surgery was a last resort, although i did hesitate to have it as i am currently doing my GCSE's and i seriously wanna do well but somethings have to be done.
This prolapsed disc was causing sciatica down my right leg and although this pain was quite bearable it was just annoying and unpractical. I let myself off easy and avoided sports and PE as i knew these would increase the pain. it was just sososo uncomfortable all the time and held me back from doing alot of things, like i always had to be careful at concerts, i couldn't exercise properly, it was a pain to wear heels and caused me some sleepless nights.
SOOO i finally went for this surgery and i didn't really worry about it, i was more worried about the amount of school work i would miss omg. The surgery lasted 37 minutes and was extremely successful. I only spent a night in hospital because i was young. The next person to my age in my ward was 46, haha. I was assigned exercises by the physiotherapist the day after the operation, which proved to help. The past week I have felt so weak and sleepy and faint, which is typical post operation. I'm now back to myself, however, my sciatica did return this morning :(. But apparently that is normal.
I've realized this is not an overnight fixture and it's something i'm going to have to work on for however long it takes, I'm just trying to get back into daily routine and hopefully return to school with in the next week. For now i'm just battling through to try and keep up with school work and doing my lil' physio exercises RELIGIOUSLY, maybe ill start swimming soon once i get the okay!
