how do you differentiate between "dismissive avoidant" and SzPD?

AvPD and SzPD historically were the same thing (AvPD was considered "high schizoid") - see this very informative post by @schizotaxic, this post by @interference-signal, and 'Schizoid or Avoidant?' on Socially Distant.

I think maybe the differentation between SzPD and dismissive avoidants is this part: "Has same fear of being abandoned or rejected, but lacks insight and reflection." Of course if we look at SzPD we see that it does have the fear of abandonment and rejection, but most researchers who have only a basic knowledge of SzPD (as all but PD specialists do) will see that fear and diagnose AvPD instead of considering SzPD.

And of course dismissive avoidants will have the other symptoms of AvPD (instead of or as well as SzPD symptoms). It would come down to the individual's symptoms and history, and whether or not their clinician was knowledgeable about AvPD and SzPD.

A normal breakup usually makes sense. There is a conversation and an understanding of why things are ending. An avoidant discard happens completely out of nowhere. One day you feel entirely secure and the next day they are totally gone.

But their sudden exit has absolutely nothing to do with your worth.
