In honour of the 30th anniversary of A Goofy Movie.
The three muskateers headcanons
Pete loves his 'King Of France' song and even now can execute it flawlessly. He can even do it at twice the speed if he's feeling particularly showwy-offy.
Pete was also happy he could go back to his peg-leg like his early days. Of course he likes his prophetic leg, but it's sometimes nice to go back to his old ways.
Goofy brought Max along to watch the 'kidnap Minnie and Daisy from the carriage' scene and the following 'try and rescue them from the castle' scene. Max was in his teenager phrase at the time, so he was embarassed as hell when his dad had his hat pulled over his head by the bad guy, but even Max had to be impressed when he watched Goofy flawlessly pull of the out-the-window stunt that ended with him taking out the bad guys.
Donald cites this as one of the main films he's actually had to act in rather than just be a exaggerated version of himself as he was playing up his cowardness rather than his anger. He had to do a few takes with the aforementioned kidnap and castle scene as he kept instinctively getting involved like he would normally and had to keep reminding himself he was meant to be scared of these buffoons.
Max was meant to come along for the scene where Clarabelle leads Goofy away, but Goofy himself decided not to at the last moment because he thought Max couldn't handle his 'old pop' being 'tricked like a fool' Max himself was like: "What are you talking about, Dad? I've literally seen you fall down stairs, over air and get outsmarted by nearly everything, including inanimate objects - why would this be any different?
Goofy though had one of his 'I am actually putting my foot down' moments and Max was banned. He's watched the scene since then and still doesn't get it.
6. On the other hand, Donald had to actively keep his nephews away from seeing his death scene because they were oddly excited to see him nearly beheaded! ["We just want to see you acting!" "Yeah right, I see you with the notebook, put it away!"] They had Daisy babysit them that night.
7. During the scene where Pete has locked Mickey up and is cruelly telling him his friends won't be coming, when Mickey says: "Well, Goofy then!" Pete was originally meant to just laugh hysterically then say the 'All for one line' He add-libbed the 'Goofy's getting fitted for a halo' line because he felt his character just wasn't evil enough. Which means Mickey's reaction was real.
8. Clarabelle loved playing a villains role for a change. She especially like her and Goofy's duet where she got to ham it up a lot. She was almost disappointed her character has such an abrupt change of heart!
9. There was no water in the cell, that was added in afterwards by animators. Instead they just acted like Mickey was drowning. Being Toons they pulled it off brilliantly.
10. It has been pointed out that it's a bit weird they focused on Mickey's height when he's the same height as Donald, but this was glossed over because they couldn't think of another flaw for him.
11. Pete adlibbed the 'I feel like eatin' a snail' line.
12. When Mickey, Donald and Goofy are fighting the two Beagle Boys, Goofy wasn't meant to fall. It was an accident, but thankfully Mickey and Donald shielded him and it ended up looking completely natural so they threw it in.
13. Max, P.J., Pistol, Huey, Dewey and Louie were all invited to watch the opera scene, with the understanding they'd be positioned towards the back so they weren't in the crowd shots. Max spent most of it thinking he was going to have to take his dad to the hospital afterwards while the triplets had a bet going on when Donald would loose his temper. [They all lost cos he managed to not lose it]
14. Yes Minnie and Daisy were in the box all through the scene. They just had to trust everything would go smoothly.
15. When Mickey's trying to break the Minnie and Daisy out, notice his sword isn't anywhere near the lock. This was deliberate as he didn't want to accidently stab Minnie or Daisy.
16. During the scene when they're all on the stage, one of the extras fainted [fair right]. He was checked afterwards and fine.
17. The rest of the musketeers were played by the same dog-faces who populated early Goofy shorts. They were pleased to get back into acting again.
This is one of the reasons why I loved “A Goofy Movie” so much at a young age. Goofy was always a character I loved, but you look at the other Mickey Mouse characters and see all the shorts and movies they were in that gave them the emotional and serious spotlight from time to time, but Goofy rarely got that, he was always just Goofy and that was it. Then “A Goofy Movie” came along, and he was actually allowed to be a character. We got to see him scared, angry, emotional, vulnerable, all because of his son Max, whom he loves very much. While cliche, (it’s literally a cheesy 90’s movie) the idea of Goofy being a caring father who was afraid to lose Max and be disconnected with him was really compelling to watch, because it actually felt realistic, and the movie moved me. I will never not get over the line “I’m not a kid anymore dad! I’ve got my own life!” — “I know that! I just wanted to be a part of it.”- it’s so good. 😭
Can you draw Goofy comforting his son, Max??? Goofy is a sweeter and a more calmer dad than my douche of a father who always makes me feel like shit.
Omg you reminded me how much I loved A Goofy Movie and these two’s dynamics in it 🥺

I love these characters

Max Goof was isekai’d to an anime-inspired world and still gets a redhead for a love interest.
