Can we normalize like..not making mental disorders monsters? And making sure people with these disorders know they're not monsters? I took a few psychology classes (college/dual enrollment) and almost every time we talked about disorders someone always brought up how "disorder XYZ is so bad, those people are so manipulative. I could never be friends with them because they just turn horrible." It's one thing if the person is actively aware of their disorder or their behaviors and still constantly does it but to claim someone who has no idea or has set back in their treatment are monsters..you're the problem! Like if you're unaware of any disorders you may have but still actively not trying to fix your behavior you are a problem. I'm talking about the people who don't know they have XYZ disorder or are actively trying to be better but they have set back like you have on many healing journeys.
But imma turn my attention to people who have BPD(borderline personality disorder). I'm in therapy to hopefully get diagnosed and get more help on my healing journey. But I was in class and we were talking about disorders and of course BPD gets brought up. And I'm not saying this girl has it but she has symptoms, she then loudly claims to the classroom that people with BPD are so manipulative and horrible people. Like girl, you're manipulative. Back on script, people around her started to agree and the teacher didn't correct her. Cause yes people with BPD can be manipulative, but to claim that people with it are just horrible no matter what? Girl like shut up.
People don't understand the difference between being horrible and manipulative because you want to be, sometimes we do it subconsciously and that doesn't make us less bad. What makes people less back is if they own up to it and try to fix it. The people who don't own up or don't try to fix it is what makes them horrible. And I'm tired of seeing people in these classes get the wrong idea and no one fixes how we view personality disorders.
I follow Kylee Rackman on both YouTube and TikTok, and they bring up very similar points as I do I highly recommend anyone to go look it up if they want a safe place for their healing or to support a partner who struggles with personality disorders. They show their own personal struggles and show disorders in how someone untreated may act and how healing can look. I'm sorry guys this just randomly started to irk me and I needed to vent
