Short story - the proof is in the wine
Another short for @rebeltigera also based on her au. Was inspired by her answer to the what if the traffic light trio got caught get drunk on macaque's island. There may be a snippet from my favorite marvel siblings. Obligatory not Canon to shadowlord au.
The sounds of laughter echoed on the wind as it glided through the evening landscape. Crackles of fire mixed in with childish giggles and heated debates.
It was enough to draw the six eared macaque's attention.
Curiosity and a desire to prevent any property damage the three could cause if they got too rambunctious, compelled the lord of shadows to seek out his nephew and his friends. Plus it was a lovely evening for a walk.
… well it would have been if he didn't have a needy tag along creating a shit ton of noise. Golden eyes narrowed when he looked over at the ginger monkey, who followed him without a care in the world, or at least that is what the king wanted him to believe. Macaque wasn't stupid and the king wasn't as good as he thought he was at concealing his feelings. He just didn't care enough to call the stone monkey out for it yet.
The sounds of laughter grew louder as the two came closer to where the traffic light trio were messing around. He heard an odd hic from Mk. Now the shadow monkey was suspicious and silently thankful that the twins were out cold in his nest, given his suspicion of what the three were up to.
Those suspicions were confirmed soon enough.
Macaque's eye twitched at the sight. In the middle of the clearing not too far from the well walked path was a sizable bonfire. It was set up properly so there was little risk of starting a wildfire, no doubt Redson's handy work. The boy knew very well there would be hell to pay otherwise.
Yet there was a massive pile of bottles, wine judging by the smell of the few that were already open, dumped unceremoniously within reach of the children.
When the three finally noticed the two elders staring down at them, one who was clearly irritated and the other doing a poor job at concealing his amusement, only Redson had the decency to look sheepishly about being caught. Mk was at minimum tipsy given the pink on his cheeks and a happy go-lucky look painted on his face, very reminiscent of his mentor when drunk. Mei was looking at them like the cat that caught the canary, no doubt she was the instigator for this… situation.
The ebony sighed, rubbing his temples. “Why my island…?” Mei's shit eating grin only grew and suddenly the shadow user didn't want to know anymore.
“Well… At least they are doing this somewhere safe.” The king tried to reason on behalf of the kids. He quickly backed down when shot with a look promising pain if he didn't back off.
“Relax shadow man! You guys should join us! We even managed to swipe some of the good stuff from monkey king's stash!” “Hey!!” The girl's audacity was almost worth the indignant expression on the ginger's face. Still he was suspicious of the dragon spawn given her tenacity for shit disturbing as Redson described it.
“Please macaque! It'll be fun.” the shadow user nearly flinched at the big brown doe eyes of the youngest stone monkey. If anyone ever told him that there would be a being born that could out do sun wukong's kicked puppy look, he would have called them mad… and likely would have punched them for wasting his time. Instead he shoots the king a glare, who sensibly raises his hands in surrender with a sheepish chuckle. Not even denying that he knew the kid could do that. The shadow caves not long after.
*3 hours later*
A soft chuckle escaped the ebony monkey's lips as the trio conceded defeat in the latest drinking game. It was a valiant effort but he had millennia of experience on them and significantly more potent wine exposure, granted the wine they had managed to pilfer from fruit and flower mountain was indeed the good stuff. Both strong with nostalgia and alcohol, macaque may have over indulged on the peach wine. The resulting buzz was pleasantly warm and his mind was a little fuzzy, but otherwise still enough brain cells intact.
Well… more than the others at least. Mk was swaying a little and his glamor had dropped about an hour ago, both Mei and Redson were a little better off but not by much. Wukong was drunk as a skunk… again. For being a 7 times immortal the ginger was still a light weight.
He promptly ignored the plastered king's pawing and insistent babbling. He was behaving like a needy cub and it was no longer his job to cater to the spoiled-
Warm lips pressed firmly against his own halting any further thoughts. The wine addled mind unable to process the actions of the stone monkey. The ebony monkey let out a muffled chip as calloused fingers cupped his cheeks. Those mischievous fingers quickly slid up to his sensitive ears and rubbed them just the right way for the shadow to melt in the king's hold. A small gasp gave the king all he needed to invade the warm mouth he had captured.
Slowly, slower than the six eared macaque would care to admit, he clawed back enough of his senses to realize what was happening.
Dark furred fingers gripped onto the stone monkey's shoulders and pushed the drunk king back. golden eyes blinked in hazzy confusion, watching the ebony monkey gasp for air while denying the ginger what he wanted.
After a moment macaque remember that they weren't alone. Carefully he peered over to the trio. Redson looked as though his brain had short-circeted and Mk was doing his best impression of tomato. Mei… she was holding up her phone with a grin that would put most villains to shame.
Wait…
Black fur fluffed up.
“DELETE THAT FOOTAGE!!!”

Should I off The Secret AU's Pigsy?
Yes! Extra ANGST
NO!
He's the household chef (and secretly an at home body guard) , and Macaque is a guy from a very modest background so he's very appreciative and kind to all the staff. Wukong is, well Wukong, he's more pre-journey than LMK in his characterization so he's a bit of an arrogant asshole and his (adopted) parents have a very good business.
They did kinda get divorced, it was more like you're in protective custody now and your marriage is a danger to you so it's legally disolved.
No splitting of assets or anything like that, just what was yours before divorce is still yours, and per demon customs, children go with the one who birthed them so Mac got automatic custody. Not like any reasonable judge would give Wukong custody of children.
He also gets Pigsy if he lives, because Pigsy chooses to stay with him. Pigsy is aware of what Wukong is actually up to and strongly disapproved of him keeping secrets from his family, but Wukong is not his monkey, so it's not his circus.
He's just trying to keep order in the house while Mac is freaking out about Wukong possibly cheating.
The Secret AU is very fun :3
This was more like a several thoughts of context to my 1 evil thought.
Divorced Monkies
Short story - little surprises
So it is high time I feed my favorite artist with literary content, this took longer than I want cause got sick. essentially it is a what if for macaque finding out Mk could also be his in the shadowlord au, which belongs to @rebeltigera and is not Canon unless she says so. It was inspired by a video where someone demanded an explanation via 'explain yourself knave!', I really wanted macaque to use that line but it didn't feel right.
The clang of metal was followed by a soft curse as mk darted after his wayward staff. Macaque's last blow had sent Ruyi Jingu Bang flying off into the distance of the training grounds, much to the dismay of son wukong's successor.
“Language boy.” The master of shadows scolded as he launched another strike at the kid. The kid probably didn't even hear him with how focused he was on retrieving the weapon without getting hit in the process. It was difficult to keep a straight face as the young stone monkey screeched and shrieked as he dodged the elders attacks all the while running for the staff. It was ridiculous and reminiscent of the boy's mentor. Macaque wasn't sure if he found the antics irritating or entertaining at this point, but he was thankful that he had designed the training grounds to be able withstand his nephew. Otherwise the place would have been torn to shreds with how hard he was training the kid today.
A cheer of excitement erupted, drawing the shadow monkey's attention back to the boy. It seems mk had successfully retrieved the staff. With a wicked grin he leaped into a shadow portal. The kid's squeal of surprise as he descended upon him was almost worth the ringing in his ears.
What he had not anticipated was mk disappearing into the shadows. Not even seconds later the boy appeared behind him trying to strike. If the kid had any capacity for subtlety, he might have landed a hit on the lord of shadows this time. To bad mk was still too much like his mentor. Grabbing the staff and sending the kid flying with a solid kick to the stomach had been a reflex as his mind tried to comprehend what the boy had just pulled off. Not even the kid's screaming as he flew through the air registered.
The kid just used shadow step…
How the fuck did the kids just use shadow step!?
This… This wasn't possible. MK was Wukong's kid! He should only have wukong's powers! Sure the rest of the kid's origin was a mystery, but he just assumed that kid was made from some mystic monkey nonsense. Did he have other theories to the kid's origin, yes, but as time went on they seemed less and less plausible. It still didn't explain how the kid was starting to tap into shadow magic, specifically magic that was unique to macaque.
“Um… earth to macaque? Are you in there?” golden copper eyes blinked rapidly as macaque jolted away from the hand rapidly waving in his face.
“Err… you okay?” Mk asked, his honey brown eyes gazing up at him full of concern. It was infuriatingly nostalgic with how quickly he was tempted to relent his stoic and indifferent persona for the boy.
“Ya, I'm fine kid… where did you learn how to do that?” He eyed the young stone monkey carefully. Mk may have a talent for distraction, his skills in lying still needed a lot of work.
“The shadow blippy thing?” The kid scratched his head as he searched his memory for any possible instance that he could have used beforehand. “Just now I think…” Mk replied with hesitation, a nervous smile directed to the lord of shadows.
“Typical…” Macaque nearly groaned in frustration. He should know better by this point. This shit happened with wukong all the time when they were young, so it makes sense wukong's son would be no different. That didn't mean he couldn't internally curse at the universe for making him deal with it.
“So…” he could practically feel the nervous rolling off the kid. He sighed in defeat. It's not like wukong had any idea how to use shadow magic, and he wasn't about to risk Mk accidentally creating a rift between the realm of shadows and the mortal realm due to wukong's over confident stupidity.
“Come on kid. I may as well show you how to use it properly.” Macaque didn't bother to hide his exasperation as he started walking over to a more shaded area of the training grounds.
“Sweet!” the kid whooped in excitement as he followed after the elder celestial monkey.
The sun was beginning to set by the time macaque was satisfied with Mk's basic understanding of his new power. To his credit mk had been diligent the entire time and had worked hard to master what macaque had taught him about shadow step. He did have to shut down the kid's bright idea to test if he had other shadow powers. His nerves couldn't handle any more surprises today and he didn't want to spend only Stars knowing how long searching the realm of shadows on the off chance the kid did have other shadow abilities and accidentally got swallowed by them.
Watching in silence, he didn't stop the boy from running off. No doubt excited by the day's events and wanted to tell his friends. Molten gold eyes narrowed. Hopefully he would get some answers before word eventually got back to princess iron fan. He was going to redirect as much of her rage to that idiot sage as possible.
Once the kid was completely out of sight, he fell back with well practiced grace into his shadows. His turn flowed like water, his moment now facing forward as he slipped through the portal of shadows.
He paid no mind to the sounds of objects crashing to the ground around him. No his focus was the prey pinned beneath him, fist gripping the front of the sage's shirt.
“You have some explaining to do sun wukong!”
Short story - the needs of cubs
Alright everyone some tooth rotting fuff base off of the shadowlord au by @rebeltigera. As always this not Canon unless rebel decides otherwise. The song used is how does a moment last forever (music box) from the live action beauty and the beast, it inspired the whole idea. Enjoy the cavities!
Son wukong stared down at his current predicament in absolute confusion and barely concealed terror. He was the king of fruit and flower mountain, the great sage equal to heaven, he had been in plenty more dangerous situations than this and far more ridiculous ones too. Mostly self-inflicted, sure, but now was not the time for that. Cause at the moment the king was facing a pair of overtired tiny cubs that belonged to his ex-husband, who for what ever reason, had climbed into his lap, tugging on the tension wraps on his forearms, angrily chirping their demands.
A lullaby, they wanted a lullaby…
Of the demands he had received in his life, this one baffled and terrified him the most. As badly as he wanted to give in to his ex-husband's adorable little terrorists, the last thing he wanted to do was overstep with macaque again. Their truce was still fragile and while their relationship was starting to mend, the cubs and his involvement with them was still an extremely touchy subject. One that macaque still wasn't fully ready to approach yet, which wukong understood. well… he did now after a devastating life lesson and reality check he had a while ago. He had actively tried to keep an acceptable distance from the cubs for the lord of shadows ever since.
Being sought out by the very tired pair seeking comfort was not something the king had anticipated. And now they were crying.
Shit! Shit! Shit! They were crying!
Without thinking, he scooped up the cubs, pressing them close with awkward cuddles in an attempt to sooth the exhausted pair. They settled a little but still looked at him with those big tear filled eyes.
Macaque was going to kill him…
He missed the days where macaque would have teased him relentlessly for how quickly he would cave to a little one’s demands, but those days had been lost long ago.
Carefully, with his free hand, he rooted around in the pouch tied to his hip and pulled out an intricately delicate old music box. It had been macaque's in the days before his foolish war with heaven, one of the few keepsakes he had left of the shadow. He had brought it to the island to return it to its rightful owner once he had finished repairing the damage done by time… and actually got enough nerve built up to give it to the dark furred monkey, but for now he had need of the ancient treasure.
Carefully he turned the mechanism, cranking the springs as far as they could safely go without causing damage. The cubs stared at the box with half-hearted curiosity as the music began to play. The melody was just as soft and soothing as he remembered. He may have taken a moment to bask in familiar song.
“How does a moment last forever? How can a story never die?” His voice was steadier than he felt, but he focused on the cubs who had nestled into his arm after fully settling down.
“It is love we must hold onto, never easy, but we try.” He couldn't resist carding his finger through soft black fur.
“Sometimes our happiness is captured. Somehow, a time and place stand still…” his heart almost melted when one of them yawned, the boy if his guess was correct. Both were stubbornly fighting sleep and all cubs do. Wukong had been no different at their age.
“Love lives on inside our hearts and always will.” the sage couldn't help but smile as the little ones finally gave in after the last verse. As much as the king desperately wanted to smuggle them back to thier nest to avoid their father's wrath, he dared not move as to not risk waking the willful little bundles, so he got comfortable. He would accept what ever punishment the master of shadows deemed fit after the cubs were safely back in macaque's care.
Just outside of the sage's notice was the tip of a fluffy black tail peaking out from a nearby column. It twitched with conctrol uncertain emotions.
