Dizzy Gillespie and Jimmy Rushing

The very cool video from France in 1959 features one of Dizzy Gillespie’s better, if unsung, quintets with Leo Wright on flute and alto sax, Junior Mance on piano, Art Davis on bass and Teddy Stewart on drums. The magnificent Jimmy Rushing joins them and sings the blues as only he can. Leo Wright’s initial flute solo is a delight. The tape cuts out during the outgoing melody but well worth your time.
