. . Finishing Marlon B.'s DMX1580S . After having replaced both input gain potentiometers (one had a 14K resistance instead of the expected 10K, and both had more or less bad tracking from CW to CCW), found a dead TL071 op-amp (its outside had been TOTALLY blackened by overheating, probably...) on one of the DAC3 boards. Also had to clean the dirty "output mix" switch that was preventing the mixing of both output channels. Last, I recapped the balancing circuitry of both outputs. . FINALLY found a workaround for the ribbon cable issue!!! 🙂 . Had to find the right way to (neatly) put this f*cking cable between the MCB4 card and channel A's Pitch Change board so as to make the parasitic clicks definitively disappear!!! . Meaning that this is clearly NOT an issue with the cable itself but rather a capacitive effect. Which is probably due to the configuration of both involved PCBs and the high frequency of certain signals running in this cable (10 MHz for the highests). . And if you were wondering, I could only find that out after hours of trial and errors. So, fixing DMX1580s definitely ISN'T for the faint at heart... Audio issues on channel A of (parisian producer) #MarlonB 's DMX15-80S solved: no more distortion! 👌 . This was actually due to an unintentional electrical bridge on the solder side of the unit's motherboard, between a loooong jumper wire and some solder joint on the PCB... this very wire, bringing one of the sampling frequency signals to Channel A's DAC3 board, was so much disturbed by the electrical short that the output of the converter added a lot of harmonics... . Anyway, now on to the few issues left: some glitches still occur due to one of the ribbon cables gone brittle. Replacement of the two terminal capacitors on the audio chain of the left channel of this @ams_neve DMX1580S from the @questiondeson Studio in Paris. . Those were leaking and made a somewhat loud background noise, rendering this channel almost unusable... 😥 .
