Okay, so I need to get this off my chest because it’s been living rent-free in my brain since Stranger Things 5 dropped.
WHY is it that the second Episode 4 ends and we all realize Will actually has powers—and after that insanely badass scene—suddenly everyone’s like “omg Will is my favorite character 😍 he has so much aura 😍 I’ve always loved him 😍”?
Like. Be. So. For. Real.
No you didn’t.
No you DID NOT.
Y’all spent years calling him annoying, whiny, traumatized zombie-boy, literally everything except “my beloved.” But the moment he lights up like a mystical Christmas ornament and does one cool thing, suddenly everyone is cosplaying as his #1 fan. I’m sorry but the whiplash is insane.
Meanwhile me, who at age 12 (back in 2020) saw Will Byers on screen for literally five minutes and went,
“Yep. That one. That’s my emotional support boy. That’s my entire personality now.”
And I’ve been loyal for FIVE. YEARS.
I’ve been out here in the trenches trying to convince people that Will is the best character, and nobody cared until he got powers. Honestly? It just proves my point that people only stan characters when they’re flashy and superpowered.
Like, let’s be real for a sec: the same thing happens with Eleven. People don’t love her because of her trauma or arc or personality—no, it’s “SLAY QUEEN TELEKINESIS” 24/7. If El had zero powers? Half of y’all would suddenly pretend you “never really connected with her tbh.”
People just love power fantasies.
I love characters who are falling apart emotionally like wet cardboard.
We are not the same.
Anyway, I’ve been a Will stan since day one. Since before the powers. Before the glow-ups. Before the cool scenes. He is my son!
Let’s not pretend that doesn’t matter.
