Once a month I talk about more personal stuff. This month has a lot of overlapping issues. My continued plea is for everyone to please be kind to one another on YouTube as well as the rest of the Internet.

I’m going to etch it into stone around here somewhere: What works well at my table may not work well at yours and vice versa. It doesn’t mean anyone’s way of doing things in a game is any better or any worse than anyone else’s. As long as people are having fun, it’s okay.
Actors Need Not Apply.
*But are still very welcome. Today I’d like to revisit the notion that Players and Games Masters do not need acting talent in order to participate in TTRPGs. This is not an April Fool’s joke, so please believe me when I say I’m being as serious as usual. I take the topic of people being actively chased away from my hobby very seriously. One of my ultimate goals in TTRPGs is to gain and retain…

Let's Discuss Character Specialization: New vs Old School.
Characters can be portrayed the same way in several different games, but there seems to be a modern trend toward throwing statistics at everything.
I noticed something about the way we treat characters in D20 Fantasy games these days. Have we overcomplicated our fantasy TTRPG experience? These days we have classes and subclasses and multiclassing to create all of these crazy meta power builds in Dungeons & Dragons. It’s gotten to the point where if you want an insane character build that often involves dipping into three and sometimes four…

Game Master as Storyteller?
A Game Master/Dungeon Master isn't solely responsible for telling a story. It's something we create together. I know this take isn't necessarily popular these days, but we all need one another. The GM/DM and the players- together.
Obvious reference to World of Darkness notwithstanding. I have kind of a different take on this issue. I’ve seen a great deal of rhetoric floating around the Dungeons & Dragons as well as the #ttrpgcommunity about this topic as of late and I think it warrants further discussion. My take might not be for everyone. As always, do what works best for you and your group.A lot of this debate has to do…

#RPGaDay2023 August 14: Favourite Convention Purchase.
My Holy Grail AD&D find in a bargain bin at a convention. #RPGaDay2023.
I like to rummage through bargain bins/boxes in the dealer’s room at any convention I go to looking for out of print or obscure items that I might have missed out on earlier in my long gaming career. It’s just a thing I like to do because sometimes people don’t realize what they have. Honestly, most of these items have sentimental value to me more than anything, but I’m a collector and TTRPG…

Depiction of Aragorn on Magic: the Gathering Card Ignites Social Media Firestorm.
A brief review of the new Aragorn artwork for the upcoming Magic: the Gathering/Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle Earth release. What started as an artwork teaser turned into a raging online hate-fest.
Some “fans” react in the most abhorrent ways possible. Painted by Irvin Rodriguez, a talented American artist whose other works are awe-inspiring. I’ve seen things go sideways before, but this is an all new low for some Magic: the Gathering fans. Artwork for the upcoming Magic: the Gathering/Lord of the Rings expansion was just released showing Aragorn holding Andúril, Flame of the West. My hot…

Bring Back the 127 Page Wonder.
A little insight into the philosophy going into my own untitled fantasy TTRPG. I think a lot of game companies would benefit from lowering prices, and putting more written content into their books. That's my opinion, though.
The 1st Ed AD&D Player’s Handbook. But wait, there’s more to it. I’ve noticed a trend in TableTop RolePlaying Games. The core books keep getting longer and longer while the price per page seems to be going up. It seems normal enough for game companies, but it’s kinda tough on consumers. I understand artists, writers, printers, and even Executive Producers need to make money. But could there be a…
