Finished my first knit top. Wish it fit. :( Learned some sizing and yarn choice lessons so its not a complete failure.

Thoughts on Brecon Beacons and why the TV adaption left it out:

From the first watch through, I’d thought that it was a good move to leave it out, but I finally figure out why I liked that move so much, so here it is: Brecon Beacons is pretty much irrelevant to the Point Blanc story line.

What are the things Alex does/skills he hones while there in the book? He pick-pockets the Sarg. He climbs up a chimney. He watches the others parachute. All of those things he needed in Cornwall (in Stormbreaker), but he does none of those things at Point Blanc (not in the series, anyway, because he has Kyra to do all the hacking instead of having to climb up a chimney to reach the second floor).

What does he have to face at Point Blanc? Interrogation. And he has to use what he’s got; he doesn’t have anything at his disposable, so he has to improvise -- just like when he found a way to steal the paperclip and found an opportunity to use it unnoticed.

Basically what I’m trying to say is, that in both cases he was shown using the skills that he would end up actually needing.

On top of that, it’s all about timing -- and I don’t mean show timing, but rather in Stormbreaker they already had a timetable. Since he was posing as the winner of a contest, he had to be there on a certain day. But for Point Blanc, they had no idea how long it would take to hear back from the academy, and it seems it was only a few days, which would not have been enough time for the whole Brecon Beacons situation to unfold or be useful.

All in all, it just wouldn’t have made sense to include it.
