Here’s a pesky, but pretty, invasive species for Wednesday’s Weed! This is oxeye daisy, or dog daisy, Leucanthemum vulgare. While native in parts of Europe and Asia, is spreads like crazy in North American, Australia, and New Zealand! It loves disturbed areas and grasslands, and quickly chokes out native wildflowers. Being in the aster family, each “head” is actually made up of many white ray florets and yellow disc florets, each being it’s own “flower”. 

Technically, the buds of this flower are edible. The flowers have an unpleasant scent, though, and that’s enough to put many people off experimenting with them.
