I choose to believe that the MC from ddlc was conscious and was absolutely fed up with Monika's bullshit.

It's not something I see very often, for obvious reasons (the MC is deliberately almost a non-character), but it's very interesting, this hypothetical dynamic of someone like Monika completely destroying your world, taking your best friend away from you and making you forget about her, making a girl stab herself in front of you and locking you in the same room as this girl's body for an entire weekend. All to get romantically closer, not to you, but to a conceptual being beyond your comprehension who observes the world through you.

And now you two are the only people in the world, and you're forced to sit face to face with her while she talks to herself for hours and forces you to answer what she wants. While she doesn't even acknowledge your presence. Even though she's staring into your eyes.

I've heard the MC in DDLC (hey, that rhymed, master poet here) gets some hate for saying the wrong things to Sayori when she tells him about her depression.

And yes, it is undoubtedly the incorrect things to be saying.

But at the same time, do any of us ever know the right thing to say in that situation? Or any other situation concerning serious things, like, say, the death of a loved one? And couple that with the MC kinda being a doofus, not the sharpest knife in the drawer, and well. No wonder he didn't know the right thing to say. He's no therapist, no psychologist, heck, not even someone who just likes learning about that stuff. He's just an Average Anime Loser.

But he genuinely cares about Sayori, his childhood friend. He's genuinely trying to help her. He's not perfect. But his heart is in the right place. He's always had that good heart. You can see the evidence of his goodness in all 3 routes.

He simply just didn't fully understand the situation. And thanks to Monika, never would.

Monika is another enormous thing to consider. Tbh, it likely wouldn't have mattered if MC said the absolute most perfect thing anyways. Monika likely would've just kept turning up the dial on Sayori's depression.

Have some queer headcanons (as well as surname headcanons) for the Literature Club, just before Pride Month comes to an end!

Sexualities detailed in the picture:

Sayori Ushijima: trans guy, he/him, demiromantic demisexual, bi

Natsuki Nekomata: trans girl, she/her, sex-repulsed asexual, bi

Yuri Mamizuka: nonbinary, she/xe/neos, unlabelled (might be the token alloromantic AND allosexual)

Monika Lisovski: cis ally, aromantic, cupioromantic, canonically pan

Masachika "MC" Tori: any pronouns, questioning both sexuality and gender,

Some extra notes, below the cut:

Each of the surnames I've given the club relates to their canon-assigned animal motifs (Sayori = cow, Natsuki = cat, Yuri = raccoon, Monika = fox), and I gave an assigned animal to MC too; that being a rooster (a barnyard animal to match with Sayori, and a male animal with a certain term matching the male anatomy, in addition to being a bird standing out against a club full of mammals).

I also made Monika the only non-Japanese person in the club, more specifically a Polish-American exchange student, to make her appear to be even more of an outcast, even without the dating sim set-up.

Sayori was thinking about changing his name, after he came out, but had trouble deciding on one. He just KNOWS that it has to be something relating to the sun.

I'm equally enthralled with yaoi MCSayo with a gay MC, t4t hetgem MCSayo with trans girl MC (or t4t yuri with Natsuki), and any of the girls (particularly Monika) with aroace-spec MC.

Love the concept of solidarity/loving hostility between aroallo Monika and alloace Natsuki!

Absolute menace btw. Sayori is candy stealer - she must be stopped. While looking through some of the in game dialogue I see one of many reasons why boy grumbles about his friend, she's a thief!
