Thanks!
Omori, DDLC and FNAF all have a similar issue on their writting and that upsets me a little
I've been a huge fan of Fnaf since the second game came out, similarly I was waiting for omori ever since it was first anounced, so belive me when I say: I LOVE THESE GAMES!
But I have to admit it saddens me how they all make the same mistake around the end, which is, they all have a unecessary plotwits that makes the characters and overall story way poorer then before.
I'll start with DDLC because I belive it's the most agreegious one, but also, the only one where something seemed to be done about it:
Doki doki literature club relies heavily on the subversion of expectation from the viewer, that is obvious and not my problem with the game at all! my problem is that there's yet another subversion near the middle of it. The concept of starting the game and viewing all these female characters like flat desirable husks of people, just to then find out latter that like every other person in the world, they have their own complexities and issues would already be a really intreresting angle to go with, in fact, it would be perfect commentary about the fact that we have this specific view of them because we are playing as an unreliable narrator, witch I feel like is all but implied by momnets like Sayori's death, where we see the MCs humanity too, breaking down for never realizing how much she was struggling and stressing over the fact that what happened was FINAL, because it IS final to him. In an atempt to keep this meta narrative that DDLC has I feel like the game kind of affirms Monika's belive that the other character are less then her and flat by the way that it is written. I'd much rather have the story focus on how the protags preconcieved notions of these people led him to ignore the things that actually makes them people, specially because the game already kind of goes into it, it's just a shame that it kind of gets overshadowed by the project lubotina stuff (that never even goes anywhere). There was ddlc+ which atleast furthered the characters a bit, but I still think it's much too late for the commentary and writting it could've had.
Now lets get Fnaf out of the way because I belive everyone agrees with me: Fnaf had a much more grounded and cohesive story up untill 3, it's so painfully obvious that Scott kept trying to writte something else and ended up with creepypasta syndrome, where each new thing is worse than the previous in an attempt to be more choking and scary, 4-6 wrapped up the history neatly, I'll give him that, but by that point, the heavyness of the crimes and of Willian's character had already been reduced to mush, he's not a megalomaniac serial murderer, he's a cartoony evil cientist, and that really, REALLY sucks.
AND FINALLY! the thing that made me write this whole think piece: I don't think Sunny should have killed Mari on accident! All the characters in Omori are really interesting and complex, but it becomes so much harder to relate to them when two of them killed someone. whenever I replay or watch a gameplay of it I find myself hoping that magically the story will have changed and now it is trully a story about survivors guilt and mental health.
I feel like a little context would help, I have been through a EXTREMELLY similar situation to Sunny and I can asure you, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO HAVE KILLED THE PERSON FOR IT TO CAUSE EXACTLY WHAT SUNNY WAS GOING THROUGH, many of my family member have never fully recovered from what happened, good portion of them isolated themselves for several years just like Sunny, and I myself feel deep into escapism at times because I blamed myself for not having protected them (although there where other aspects involved too), point is, if I think about it from this point of view, it's almost disrespectfull how OMOCAT thought that was somehow not enough for Sunny to end up like that. And all the things I'm saying are relevant because up untill this point, everything could've been explained by that fact that Sunny and Basil found Mari's body after she ends her life, but the fact it was actually their fault kind of takes away from their characters and stories, Sunny and Basil feeling like they are to blame for not seeing how depressed she was and for being the ones to find her, Basil's constant reaffirming that everything would be okay and it would all go back to normal too, the idea that he was AWARE that those where empty promises he told Sunny because he wanted him to feel better, even though he knows things would change drastically, it fits so nicely with his and Sunny's resistance to change. I also find that Basil saying sorry for Sunny and Omori all the time could tie in with how he was about to attempt against his life too, even knowing how much pain that had caused the friend group before, ESPECIALLY Sunny, it works so well with the fact that Sunny blocks off Basil's death the same way he does Mari's on that bad ending and how prone Sunny was to do the same (since multiple endings have him doing it). Lucky for me the games insistence to have a plot twist works on my favor, as I can ignore a especific portion of it and still have a cohesive story that follows exactly what I think would've been better.
all in all I had a lot more to say about the problems I had with each but I'm sick so my mind got fuzzy half way through, so if you want to talk about any points please be free to comment or repost! I'm genuinely interested in talking about it!
I think DDLC is meant to have kind of flat characters, characters that are just cutesy. Cuz, while not it's primary purpose, it was intentionally made to poke fun at common anime tropes. Flat character design would also reinforce Monika's line of thinking. And MC is flat because he is supposed to represent the standard Boring Guy you play as, he's not supposed to have much to him. But another important thing is that DDLC was Dan Salvato's first game he made. First products are hardly ever perfect, even if they are really well made. And DDLC+ genuinely did add more to the characters. It adds so much more to Monika, which tbh, lacks much personality in the base game (tho this is probably intentional, as 1. It shows how detached she is from everything and 2. She is meant to be the "guide" character, until she breaks that). And Natsuki, before Plus, was basically just a tsundere, and DDLC+ added a much more interesting side to her, added so much depth to her. I don't think DDLC+ was too little too late, I think it's something Dan made cuz the fans wanted more and he wanted to make more.
Now, for OMORI. It's actually NOT about survivor's guilt and mental health. OMORI was not originally intended to talk about things like depression, and no professional sources were used in the game when portraying those things. That doesn't make those things in the game invalid, it's just not its main point. What OMORI is about is, according to OMOCAT herself, hope. Hope for what, exactly? Simple: that Sunny's friends will forgive him for lying about Mari's death. Because it's not just a story about Sunny learning to forgive himself, although that is VERY important. It's also about him learning to trust that his friends will forgive him. Those are things Omori lies about: "Your friends will never forgive you. They'll abandon you like you did them."
You're also absolutely right in that people don't have to have done what Sunny did to feel what he felt or similar to what he felt. But I don't think it's disrespectful for having the story how it is presently. Many people, including myself, have had or do have their own Omori in their life, and they relate very much to the story because of it. They love the story because of it. The Incident just happens to be an extreme, undeniable reason for WHY Sunny feels the way he does.
The point of Mega Evolution requiring a deep bond between a trainer and a Pokemon makes Mega Rayquaza being able to evolve on its own really funny. like who needs the power of friendship when you have the power of BEING THE COOLEST FUCKING THING ON THE PLANET
I just learned that Lusamine is the only CPU in the Pokémon games that isn't fooled by Zorua and Zoroark's disguise.
This isn't cuz she's smart tho. No, she just uses random attacks. She don't seem to care for type matchups
Inside the monster infested zone only one house is occupied by a man who refused to evacuate. It has been a year and the local government cannot understand how he is still alive and it seems the monsters avoids him.

I was inspired by that one line in the song "do not touch my dog" that says "I would lose my rosaries face down in a bog, but I will kill you dead if you try to touch my dog"
Absol?
If you've done Absol already, then Munna?
Munna fit into a curious archetype, which I have covered a few times on this blog in the past and which seems to net pretty positive scores: dream-eaters. Like other dream-eaters, munna are exceptionally easy to care for and may be able to serve therapeutic roles, all which combined with their size makes them a pretty solid candidate.
While they may be larger than one assumes at two feet tall and a little over fifty pounds, I would say that munna would not have a hard time getting around in most homes. They aren’t the most acrobatic pokémon with those little legs, instead floating through the air at all times (Black), so as long as there is enough clear space for them to float around, they should be fine. The pokédex doesn’t indicate that they have any other particular environmental needs. In fact, the pokédex doesn’t give us very much information about this pokémon in general, aside from their diet.
Munna have a documented history of living alongside humans (a distinct plus) in a, for the most part, symbiotic relationship (Black2/White2, X, Omega Ruby, Sword). As mentioned at the top of this post, munna feed on the dreams of humans and other pokémon. This means that feeding them is essentially free for most owners! As I have mentioned in other posts about dream-eating pokémon, this could certainly have therapeutic use as well, especially for those who struggle with nightmares. While munna can eat both good dreams and bad dreams, they seem to be particularly drawn to humans who are having nightmares (Black2/White2, X, Omega Ruby). There is, of course, a payoff here: if you allow a munna to eat all your dreams, good and bad, you won’t be able to remember the good ones (Black). Otherwise, though, this seems like it is hardly an inconvenience. The only byproduct of this dream-consumption, it seems, is colored mist, the color of which is determined by the type of dream consumed. (White, Y, Alpha Sapphire, Shield, Legends: Z-A).
Some of you may be concerned about a particular detail which I have thus far neglected to address: the move Dream Eater, which munna can learn, is a damage-dealing move. Does this mean that munna harm humans when they eat their dreams? I don’t think so. Given the neutral to positive tone of pokédex entries describing this Pokémon’s behavior, I am inclined to believe that the damage-dealing effect of Dream Eater is elective, not inherent. That doesn’t mean, however, that we can discount it entirely: gibbing a munna free access to your dreams carries with it the risk of an attack in your sleep. This, combined with potentially dangerous sleep-inducing moves like Hypnosis, makes munna rather dangerous if left untrained. I would argue that a munna could be an excellent low-maintenance, therapeutic pet, provided they have been trained to do so.
A well-trained munna could be an excellent option for owners who struggle with nightmares or even insomnia. That being said, adopting one is never without its risks, so I must emphasize caution. Adopting any dream-eating pokémon is something that you should discuss with a doctor and/or therapist before moving forward, in order to find out if it is a good option for your particular needs.

Really good black space interpretation below
I've heard the MC in DDLC (hey, that rhymed, master poet here) gets some hate for saying the wrong things to Sayori when she tells him about her depression.
And yes, it is undoubtedly the incorrect things to be saying.
But at the same time, do any of us ever know the right thing to say in that situation? Or any other situation concerning serious things, like, say, the death of a loved one? And couple that with the MC kinda being a doofus, not the sharpest knife in the drawer, and well. No wonder he didn't know the right thing to say. He's no therapist, no psychologist, heck, not even someone who just likes learning about that stuff. He's just an Average Anime Loser.
But he genuinely cares about Sayori, his childhood friend. He's genuinely trying to help her. He's not perfect. But his heart is in the right place. He's always had that good heart. You can see the evidence of his goodness in all 3 routes.
He simply just didn't fully understand the situation. And thanks to Monika, never would.
Monika is another enormous thing to consider. Tbh, it likely wouldn't have mattered if MC said the absolute most perfect thing anyways. Monika likely would've just kept turning up the dial on Sayori's depression.
