after achieving her bachelor's degree in computer science, kyungmi begins to think she chose the wrong career path. the biggest regret is accepting a position in a security software company. she needed regular income instead of confiding in irregular pays from the hacker group. but she didn't expect office jobs to be this boring. why was korean society obsessed with attaining this type of trade? being in an office all day and doing one task over and over, and over again. it was dull and incredibly mundane—two things kyungmi hates most. so, naturally, she decided to recover lost time by enjoying seoul's nightlife. much like every night. but first, she needs to get out of her business attire.
the bus ride home left her with some change, and being the fidgety-type, she persistently flipped the coin and caught it. even while walking (it made it more challenging that way). as she stepped inside the lobby's elevator, the coin is sent into the air. her gaze followed the spinning currency up, but once an outline of another person came into view, her eyes automatically focused on them. a person she did not want to see—let alone ride an elevator with—kyungmi's next step halted. the coin was forgotten and fell to the floor, tinging as metal met with the glued plywood. it bounced once—twice—three times before rolling into the doors' rails; which was closing. it took a moment for kyungmi to shake her starstruck daze. they managed to avoid each other for a month since the student moved in, and she would like to continue that streak. without a word, kyungmi turned to leave, but the doors slid shut. she hit the button (rather harshly) to force the entrance back open but met with a cruel reality. a scratch of metal against steel and a blatant thud as the doors stall. " what— " the button is pressed again but this time—nothing—until the emergency stop button lit a vibrant red. a sign that the lift isn't going anywhere.
