He’s always been a mess and she’s always accepted it, turning a blind eye to the chaos he brought to her life. She prayed she satiated his pain if only a little bit, but she doubted helping him heal was anywhere in her power.
She wouldn’t call him a lost cause, but he was simply a puzzle her nimble fingers couldn’t put together no matter how hard she struggled. His hold on the drugs were too strong. With each round of rehab came the hope he’d be better, that he’d be reformed into a new man. It never happened, and she had stopped expecting him to be healed.
Hoping for the better never got anyone anywhere, it was all a matter of putting the effort into any obstacle that made any difference. Jinho just needed her help. He needed everyone’s help.
Sometimes her mind isn’t whirling with thoughts of his inevitable end and instead she’s able to focus on better things. Like his smile when they’re together and the connection they have. He was the brother she never had, and she couldn’t explain why that meant so much to her.
She never brings it up. And sometimes she regrets that. She’s never been good with sharing her emotions, especially when it came to more heartfelt ones. Maybe one day she wouldn’t swallow down her thoughts and instead let them flow freely to the other.
The pitter patter of rain awakens her from her thoughts. She doesn’t speak for a moment, choosing to focus on the way the drops burst when they hit the ground. She had always loved the rain, finding it beautiful even on the worst days.
“Jihyo.” She’s startled by his voice, turning around to face him with a small smile tugging at her lips. He looks good, his eyes bright. “Come on.”
Her brows draw together in confusion but she doesn’t refuse, rising up to follow him outside. She’s happy she wore a thicker shirt today, stretching out her arm to catch some of the drops in her palm. While Jihyo doesn’t know why he decided to invite her outside in the rain she isn’t complaining as she invites the rain with open arms, watching the male with amusement twinkling in her eyes.
It’s not often she sees him enjoying himself anymore, and with each waning day the likeliness of seeing a smile on his face grew more slim. While he may have looked like a complete idiot running around beneath the crying sky, it was certainly entertaining.
She only hesitates a moment longer before joining, throwing all caution to the wind as she ran after him. It was easily one of the most ridiculous things she had done in her life, but she didn’t care.
