Once more, embers flutter around. The reversed process of disintegration brings with it near-silent crackles as burning edges pulse and merge back together.
Once more, a single italicized 'S' adorns the envelope's front.
My dear friend through the veil,
Oh what joy to hear of a light that glows with the light of the proverbial beating heart, of the love than runs surely within us all!
I have heard of plasma only on a couple of occasions in my youth, and once more from the astute young engineer and his adoptive parental figure; I must confess, the concept is far beyond me.
I'm showing my age, but a couple of centuries back in Cathburgh, when the foundational pipelines were being laid, I had a friend of mine put in a few good words here and there and wound up having this peculiar power source installed in my city getaway.
Britol, the clever young Kholean I mention above, surmises that this power source is similar to that of this 'Plasma' you speak of. A darker man would wonder if your plasma and this luminous algae coloured power have the same properties. Such interests are more Knell's remit than mine, of course.
Regrettably, oil lamps are not a viable option for me. Too many memories, my mind seems to get lost in the wick's well.
In the Necropolis, there is a method of producing low level light whereby a mucous-like substance is mixed with some other reagents and then the most peculiar addition of subterranean worms is performed. All local ingredients I am told.
The light given is produced by the worms writhing through the liquid, typically suspended in glass jars. I have been informed that the smell is not pleasant; On this occasion, I can be thankful to have lost my nose.
If it is amenable to you, I would be most grateful to be bequeathed such a light-source as this literal Other-Worldly glow. I am giddy to see what shade of red it effervesces, perhaps traversal between our planes of existence may even change the properties!
It would surely keep me content and in good spirits when I retreat to a night's private reading.
Comfortably & Indulgently yours,
Fascinating prospects! I am of a similar mind, though, and will leave it to more risking individuals. It is all too lost on me and in my age I am not interested in perishing under dramatic conditions. A shame I cannot see this hold of yours, because I am quite fascinated by the infrastructure of great cities.
I am none too surprised to know that harvesting bioluminescent creatures offers little viable means of lighting--leave it to someone who lives in a cave where such creatures occur naturally. My faculty of smell remains intact and I dread to imagine it.
Your enthusiasm is met with the same! I will see it prepared as soon as possible, and hope dearly that you are pleased with the results. It should serve as a good exercise of my more neglected skills. Be not worried if the contents of the vessel itself should break--it should not harm you, or, that is to say, it has harmed none of my kind. Find an apt new glass and restore the other components, and you should find luck.
