Her words, not his, but they had echoed inside his mind for so long after she had left him that they had begun to sound like his voice. She had poisoned his body, turned him into a vampire, and then she had poisoned his mind.

You had found him that night, alcohol in hand, music blasting so loud that you couldn’t hear yourself think, and you had been the one to wipe his tears and hug him so tightly that he could have sworn that your touch was responsible for stitching his heart back together.

One step at a time, one day at a time, one heart to heart at a time, one break-up song at a time, your intent to be a friend to Donovan had slowly turned into you loving him… one intense moment of eye contact between the two of you had led to a kiss, and it was the rest of your forever with Donovan.
