     “You’re watching me sleep.” Elena states, eyes opening to find him staring. “Have you been there all night?” It’s not entirely surprising, after all that had transpired with her kidnapping and the discovery of Katherine and her relation, he was being protective, watching over her like a Guardian Angel lest someone come back to finish her off.

     From the moment that they had connected gazes in the closet, Elena’s vampiric heart felt as if it was an ocean amidst a storm. Up until that point he had believed her dead, having been killed in the ritual, and perhaps that had made his actions easier to him. But now, now she was alive, a vampire, but alive and she wanted nothing more than to have him at her side. If he had truly lost himself he would have revealed her to Klaus, but he hadn’t. Instead he stood before her now under the light of the moon. 

     “Stefan! Please... You can’t do this. This person that’s left bodies up and down the coast, that’s traveling with Klaus.. that’s not who you are. Look me in the eyes and tell me that you don’t still love me. Do that, make me believe it and I’ll leave you alone forever to do what you like.” Elena was pleading with him, begging him to come back to Mystic Falls with her, Damon, and Katherine. And if he didn’t? If he could honestly make her believe that all that they shared was now meaningless then she would leave and not look back.

     Elena loves Stefan with all her heart but she wouldn’t put herself through that pain. And even if she had been willing to she couldn’t. Not when she had family to protect and Klaus remained a threat even if he didn’t know she was alive. From Katherine she had discovered he was resourceful and in time they would be discovered. It was time for Stefan to choose between following this dark path he was on or her.

     Elena’s angry, rage filling up every fiber of her being in response to his attack on Damon. She loved Damon. Only Damon and she would protect him with every fiber of her being. So why was Damon telling her not to attack Stefan? It didn’t make sense. “No! Let me go! He wants to hurt you!” Elena screamed, struggling against the grip of the older vampire. 

     Elena awoke with a start, features more pale than they had before and sweat across her brow. She had been thrashing in her sleep, vampiric face coming to the front as first the memories of drowning in the car assaulted her and then her attack on Stefan. It was all still so fresh in her mind, even if they had managed to sneak her into the boarding house instead of her being in Alaric’s attic. How could she have allowed herself to become so confused?  She didn’t love Damon, she loved Stefan and it would always be Stefan.

"We are going to be parents!" Elena exclaimed, throwing herself at her beloved Stefan. Giggling, she wrapped her arms around his neck. The gap between them she removed by pressing her lips against his, kissing her love gently.
