Let's start of with a big one. 'Catfish' pt1
Catfish, it ain’t just a tv show. Also it’s not just something that happens where it’s oh you found out I was lying I better stop. Sometimes shit gets scary….and quick. This is something I have personal experience with. Picture this, I’m 16 years old and fully aware of the fact that I’m gay however hints that I’ve been getting from my family is that’s not going to go down well…at all, that’s another story we can get to that. So I can’t date or talk to guys in town because the fear that I have over my parents finding out is astronomical. So where does I young, curious, inexperienced and naive young man go. The internet of course. Now let’s skip to a few chat sites later and almost to a full year after. I’ve had no issues everything is great. I find this really good looking guy one day and we get talking. It’s not long before I’ve shared all my worries about my family and how I just want to be happy and be me. Over a span of several months the relationship develops to the point where I think to myself ‘could i possible be in love with this person I’ve never met’. The answer my 16 year old self came up with, 'yes!’ And that’s where everything went wrong. I started to notice pictures were looking too professional. Things they had once said they could no longer recall the full details and then one day someone in my close friend group suggested Skype when I told them I was starting to think something was up. Yup good ol Skype. So the person agrees and then suddenly 'the web cam is broken’, 'the laptops lid is broke and can’t sit up any higher or it just falls back’, 'I can’t get it to work it just comes up black’. The excuses would roll in. So sure enough red flags where flying. Next suggestion someone has was the technical idea of saving a picture of his and google searching it. And that folks is how I found out I was talking to a model…the end.
No that’s how I found out I was talking to god knows who using a models pictures..remember those photos looked far too professional. So I did the right thing and I called them out on it.
