A couple of shots for scale.
I REALLY want to buy an Anycubic Photon resin printer for higher res prints. An airbrush would be sweet too.
Who wants to buy these to help pay for it???
Still fine tuning my settings, so there’s a lot of room for improvement here.
For those interested, the Simplify3D settings were 1500 layer height, 3 top and bottom layers, 3 walls / shells, 60mm a second, 5% infill (fast honeycomb), bed only support, PLA @ 195 deg noz, 50 deg bed, cooling disabled. For some reason i keep getting a Thermal Runaway issue whenever i use cooling, which stops the print and locks up my printer. Nozzle temps drops rapidly and it all locks up. Weird.
There are a few holes in places where there needs to be more internal support, because there is essentially none. For really high quality prints, ill most likely use multiple processes at different layer heights and change the infill percentage under areas that need more support, rather than increasing the infill percentage over the whole model, which will increase print times greatly.
Print time was about 6 hours, which is pretty good considering the size and level of detail.
3D printed objects always look much smoother in real life, photos tend to exaggerate the bumps
This print was just the head from an older low detail version of the Baron Of Hell model. This was a test to see if it would print okay with separate shells (eyes), once the “separate connected surfaces” option was used. It turned out pretty great considering. There has been no other cleanup or processing on this print other than the removal of the support.
I’m still working on the collectible Doomguy from the new Doom, but i swear, that model is cursed! I tried printing it 4-5 times and each time it failed for different reasons. I’ve since decided on a radical overhaul of the ball joint setup, so once im finished with that ill print it again and upload the files to Thingiverse.
I’ll be printing a high detail full-body Pinky Demon today to see if my support and print settings translate over to something with finer details. Pinky has a lot more overhangs and will require quite a bit more support, and a lot of these overhangs are fine details, so it will be a tough model to print. Fingers crossed.
My plan for full body models is to build a unique stand for each, with mounting blocks in the feet so they can stand up while posed, with no balancing issues.
I’ve got a lot to learn but its coming along nicely and im loving it so far.
Edit: had to repost this as photos had weird aspect ratio.
So. Much. DOOM.
Doom movie reboot on the way
Doom movie reboot on the way
Although a Doom movie was released back in 2005, starring Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, it was heavily criticised and did not really make much of an impression at the box office. However, it has been suggested that Doom 3D is set to be made and will ignore the offerings of the original.
Universal are keen to make the Doom movie franchise as successful as the game and are searching for the right writer to pen the screenplay. Currently there have been no takers but Universal insist that they are intent on pushing forward with the project.
Where the original Doom movie took its general storyline from the game Doom 3, it is unclear where Doom 3D would get its inspiration from. It could go back to the roots of the Doom games or it could even be made in conjunction with Doom 4, which is rumoured to be released next year.
