Tokens have all kinds of purposes as a Duel progresses, ranging from materials to setting up certain strategies. With the exception of Xyz Summons, Tokens might have poor stats yet have a vital function ina Deck assisted by them. While usually Decks might carry a few effects arround them to gain that support to push our goals, some strategies are capable to invest all their build arround their pressence and their possibilities.
"Doppelwarrior" was a highly popular monster during the glory days of Synchro Monsters, carrying two effective abilities to assist in those summons from start to finish. When we revive a monster from our Graveyard (Outside the Damage Step), "Doppelwarrior" can be brought to the field from our hand as a result. While that's already a solid ability to setup bigger summons "Doppelwarrior" was mostly known for its second effect, in which once sent to the Graveyard as a result of a Synchro Summon it will produce two Tokens in Attack Position. This obviously allow us to follow the just achieved Synchro Summon with another setup, but with the introduction of the Extra Monster Zone made this ability more difficult to exploit. However, although this caused "Doppelwarrior" lose its staple position in many Decks doesn't mean is far from being useless. And while it won't regain the powerful outcomes from back its debut, "Doppelwarrior" still provides some solid benefits to rely on while preparing our summons arround its effects.
As a Warrior-Type monster with low stats, "Doppelwarrior" is in a great position to the point of not completely rely on its own Special Summon effect. Right from inside our Deck "Doppelwarrior" gets assistance from many cards arround its Type, from "Reinforcement of the Army" adding it to our hand to cards like "Reinforce Truth" and "Road Warrior" directly summon it from the Deck. One option in particular is "Mimiclay", allowing us to summon another copy of "Doppelwarrior" in exchange of banish one of them once leaves the field. When comes to its ability to Special Summon there shouldn't be any difficulties from early to late game, as with many revival effects to choose from we can constantly assure the arrival of "Doppelwarrior" no matter the circumstances. From single target effects like "Plaguespreader Zombie" to summoning monsters like "Junk Synchron" to revive materials from our Graveyard with their effects, the probabilities to assure the Special Summon of "Doppelwarrior" are incredibly high under the proper Deck. Let's not forget that "Doppelwarrior" itself can be target of revival tools to keep its use in later turns (And respond with a copy of "Doppelwarrior" in our hand), no only by many basic options like "Graceful Revival" and "Soul Charge", but also monsters like the mentioned "Junk Synchron" which will still allow us to create Tokens despite its effect being negated when revived (Since will trigger in the Graveyard).
Even if the new Extra Monster Zone and the reliance on Link Monsters to swarm the field with Extra Deck monsters damaged the efficiency of "Doppelwarrior", is still a solid material to work along thanks to all the resources supporting its cause. With the many revival effects available, "Doppelwarrior" easily goes from summoning itself by its effect to be constantly retrieved from the Graveyard turns later. Each time we perform a Synchro Summon we will get two Tokens in return, and with the proper Link Monster we can follow with a new big summon using those two monsters as materials. However, there are some setups that makes "Doppelwarrior" efficient even under the current Extra Deck rules, maybe requiring some additional steps but becoming worth the investment. Right after a Synchro Summon using "Doppelwarrior" we can follow with "De-Synchro", a Spell Card undoing that monster an letting us perform a more expensive summon by using the previous materials along the created Tokens. With the many revival effects to keep the pressence of "Doppelwarrior" while also triggering its effect, we can work along "Token Stampede" to power up its Tokens while protecting them from stronger enemies. Last, working along "Token Stampede" or not, the Level 2 of "Doppelwarrior" and its Tokens will benefit the arrival of "Junk Warrior" by gaining a big ATK boost upon arrival.
"Doppelwarrior" was a very important monster during the debut of Synchro Monsters by usually working along the Synchron archetype and the many revival effects we can add to the mix. Unfortunately, as mentioned several times the inclusion of Link Monsters and their ability to allow for more Extra Deck summons damaged the efficiency of "Doppelwarrior" considerably, seen as a dead card by many players nowadays as well a risk if we leave its weak Tokens in Attack Position until able to use them for any goals next turn. But is far from over for this monster in the current state of this game, as with the many effects to revive monsters and "Doppelwarrior" itself as well the powerful setups arround cards like "De-Synchro" and "Junk Warrior", "Doppelwarrior" still has some powerful outcomes to provide to its user if played properly. Overall, "Doppelwarrior" might no longer be the cause of several Synchro Summons in a single turn, but still provides wonderful setups and supporting effects to work along from early to late turns.
+ Special Summons itself from our hand in response of reviving a monster in our Graveyard
+ Creates two Tokens when used for a Synchro Summon
+ Greatly supported including many revival effects and setups arround its Tokens
- The Extra Monster Zone damaged its efficiency considerably
- Its Tokens should be disposed immediately due their poor stats and being summoned in Attack Position
