TIL there's an olympian called Sean Hollander, who does doubles luge with a partner who used to be his opponent in singles luge. c'mon!! this is perfect. heated rivarly 2: doubles luge coming to my screen when??
Hear me out: fuck heated rivalry, i want a doubles luge romance, they are literally on top of each other
Sorry to women's ice hockey and figure skating, but doubles luge is the gayest Winter Olympic sport by a wide margin. Both genders.
This 100% started as a dare and/or creative not-so-stealth come-on that somehow evolved into a medal-earning Olympic event.
I’m not sure how to phrase this but essentially I wanted to know if it would be possible to make like a hetero doubles luge team and it turns out that was always allowed. Near as I can tell there hasn’t ever been a rule specifically saying that doubles luge has to be two dudes, it’s just that no women competed in the sport previously. And now that they’re adding a women’s division, the essentially gay nature of the sport has now become mandated by rule. It wasn’t before, but now it is.

Olympics
“- and these happen every four of your Earth years?”
“Yeah, with two years between summer and winter Olympics.”
“Winter Olympics is all the ice based sports?”
“Snow and ice yes.”
“Which is what we are watching here.”
“Yes.”
There was a pause.
“This looooge,”
“Luge,”
“Looks like he’s sliding down the mountain on one of your tea trays, minus the kitten images.” Gary didn’t notice as Steven flushed a deep red and spluttered indignantly “Why?”
“They were my Gran’s!”
“They are sliding down on your Gran’s tea trays?”
“No, no, they have their own, I was- oh never mind.” Steve waved the question away and pointed at the tv to refocus.
“I suppose it originates from tobogganing, using a sled to get down an icy or snowy slope. Here they’re trying to get down the track as fast as possible so the sled has become smaller and more aerodynamic to help. There’s another version called skeleton where they do the same but go down head first.”
“Ohh, right. I suppose that is understandable.”
They lapsed into silence as their attention returned once more to the tv.
“Coming up next is Jerry with the doubles luge final runs, but first highlights from this mornings session.”
“Are they lying on top of each other?!”
“I believe so Human Steve.”
“Erm…”
“This is not considered typical behaviour?”
“Er-” Steve was still staring at the spectacle onscreen.
“Human Steve, I have questions.”
“So do I Gary! So do I!”
