SUDBURY, ONTARIO. ART.
“stay for awhile... or a lifetime”
That’s the very ominous slogan for Huron-Kinloss county, the area where I spent the August long weekend with a couple of pals from english major school.
We stayed in Wingham, the birthplace of Alice Munro, though it wasn’t a planned pilgrimage. We stayed in what used to be the bank and there was a small garden dedicated to the author down the street. There was also a restaurant called “Frosty Queen,” which had an amazing logo of a hamburger wearing sunglasses, eating fries and an ice cream cone.
I really do love Lake Huron and Huron county, it’s so nice for swimming and the sun sets right into the water at night. Being out there reminds me that Ontario really is a gothic and strange place, with people who sometimes seem constantly scared and confused by everything or very calm and comfortable to be around. There is no middle ground.
Here are some phone pictures of the weekend.
