Sam: “It was a long, long night.”
My entry for the asksamcontest! Inspired by this post: [x]
Here’s the text of the Demon’s monologue:
“Big mistake, Winchester. As we speak, the rest of the partygoers are under our control. We've taken the entire block. Every last one of them. blah, blah blah hellhounds. Blah blah blah foolish Winchesters. You think you can, blah blah blah without us knowing you were here? We were prepared. We had blah blah blah blah blah . . .”
Billie
Don’t get me wrong, I actually really enjoyed this episode (for the most part) but that fact that Billie was killed and barely anyone blinks an eye was really disappointing. Maybe I’m following the wrong people and there’s a huge number of people who are actually acknowledging her, who knows? She was an interesting character, whether or not you hated her, she brought something fresh to the story and not to mention she was a strong WOC. I mean, I enjoyed the badassery of the Sam and Dean and the reunion hugs were great, but I’ve seen more analysis on the placement of Sam’s taste in food, how Dean fell asleep on a toilet and Castiel’s voicemail message than the actual death of probably the only reoccurring WOC character on this show (I think EVER). I mean I’m not expecting a shrine or anything, just some acknowledgment of the actual character would be nice.
Late night writing; let’s get weird. Drabbles about counting. Sastiel.
--------
* Summary
Castiel counts the laughs Sam has made for the day. Twenty-two.
Sam adds to the “Cas smile” quota. Seventeen and counting.
____
* Date Night
Sam and Cas decide the best way to determine their next date is to count the number of times Dean has left the coffee pot on after a week--something Dean denies, but that’s not the point.
“Forty three,” Sam whispers to Cas. “My turn.”
____
* Control
Sam counts the number of stray threads hanging from his sleeves. Castiel’s question comes out dry; his eyes scan Sam for nicks and bruises.
“Control,” Sam says.
Cas replies with a nod.
____
* Knowing
Castiel recounts the first five years of Earth’s existence. Thud after thud, he counts until he hears a crack. He lowers his fists from the split punching bag, watches the broken link of chain swing above his head. Sam doesn’t ask.
Sam counts the wrinkles on Castiel’s sleeve. Hours past bedtime, minutes awake, ticking off number thirty-five, forty-six, forty-eight; keeping the cold at bay. Castiel doesn’t ask.
____
* Shadow
Sam murmurs mile markers. Dean plays it up and teases Sam about Rain Man and talking gibberish again. But Dean can’t see the shade of wings near the Impala’s rolling shadow, gliding behind every so often; fading and appearing as Baby rolls along. That’s okay.
____
* Reunions
Castiel slashes another mark on the napkin, smearing ink along the heel of his hand with sticky blue. There are scratches, sharp lines grouped together--large groupings, smaller ones. Cas feels the charge in the air, notes the glint in the corner of the bar. Number eighty-seven. Hopefully just passing through.
Cas doubts that, but the thought is nice.
____
* Show-offs
Castiel and Sam slide notes back and forth; some are questions, others leads.
“306 point twenty-three,” Castiel says.
“Cultures and institutions. See government institutions. Well, legislative institutions, but still.” Sam slides the notes back. “Too easy.”
“ SH441 point S, eighty-five.”
“Fly fishing?” Sam circles a word on his legal pad and grabs another book. “Didn’t know you had a preference for Maine fly fishing.”
“635 slash point zero, two, zero, seven.”
“Gardening.” Sam tilts his head and frowns at his pen. “Petunias? Got Petunia trouble, Cas?”
“Fascinating.” Castiel flashes a bit of scrawl at Sam and lowers his memo pad. “History or Atoms?”
Sam lifts a book from the pile and hands it to Castiel. He crosses out a sentence from his notes. “History. 356. Death.”
“Anthony the Great. Leap year.”
“1159, December.”
“Thirty one days. Tuesday.”
“496 BC. Birth. Easy.”
“Sophocles, one of your favorite minds. Easy.” Castiel smiles at the smudge of ink on Sam’s hand. “Will you please choose a difficult one this time?”
Sam grins and writes a number.
“Birth of the first species to become extinct.” Castiel leans forward, twinkle swimming in his eyes. “Leap year.”
____
* Sheep
Sam counts the last wrinkle on Castiel’s coat sleeve and stares up at the tiny pricks on his ceiling. The connections come like breathing, colliding with theorems and new algorithms--1,47,607, 5928, 599923--. His blinks away the growing number before his eyes and take in the glow of grace in Castiel’s eyes.
“Looks like one of those nights, Cas,” Sam whispers. He blinks away another growing number and adjusts his head on his pillow. “Do you need more room?”
“No.” Cas’s foot jerks, kicks Sam’s shin. “Apologies. I can--.”
“It’s all right, man.” Sam moves more to his left and stares at the dull silver. “Are you sure . . . I mean, you don’t have to. Do this, I mean.”
“It’s fine, Sam.” Castiel’s hand grips the edge of Sam’s pillow. “I’ll be here when you wake in the morning.”
“. . . Thanks Cas.” Sam shifts deeper into his blankets, sinks into the warmth.
“One, two, three, four, five, six, seven . . .”
Sam closes his eyes and imagines sheep.
Origami and Poetry Verse
A few months ago, I wrote this fanfic titled, “Origami Cranes.” It was a plotbunny world that I fell into and never got out of. The concept stuck with me and I, uh, well it became something more. A Series. So I decided to make this master post for my tumblr. Future works, in addition to “Explorers” and “The Portrait” will have the tag, #origami and poetry verse. I also made a link for this post on my fic library which you can find [here], as well as made a link for it on my [home page].
Here is a list of all work connected to this series. The list will expand as I add new works to it. All links should work. If they don’t, please message me via askbox. Thank you.
“Origami Cranes”
“Explorers”
“The Portrait”
“Late Owl”
“Breakfast Date”
“Week Long Vacation” If you want to read it in one go, here’s [version 2].
Characters: Sam W., Castiel Pairing: Sastiel

Notes: “Explorers,” “The Portrait,” and newer work will be added to my AO3 when I can. (To those patiently waiting over at AO3, thank you). It will be named Origami and Poetry. Let’s see where Castiel and Sam will lead us next.
EDIT: All fics and ficlets before “Breakfast Date” have been added to my AO3. I also set up the series Origami and Poetry, which you can go to [here]. Updates on the series--announcements, changes, etc.--will be tagged #origami and poetry vr. Tag link will be also found on my taglist (Devil’s Trap on my homepage).
Sketched this the day before last night’s episode. Color bomb Sam? Pastel Color Sam? Ah, let’s just let Sam be.
*WHENEVER AN EPISODE AIRS:
Hey everyone,
I will possibly live blog tonight’s episode, but even if I don’t, I will comment on a few episode moments here and there. So if you want to keep track--or block, that’s cool--here are my tags:
spn season (x)* spoilers
the episode number: 00x00 and 00.00 (example: #10x18, #10.18)
dd@d commentary (this will be used sometimes but not all the time; usually at the beginning of the episode, or when I write long post musings.)
These tags, minus the third one, will also be included in any reblogs of tonight’s episode. I’ll delete the spoilers tag on Thursday. In terms of viewing time, I go by 9 p.m. Eastern time zone (EDT or EST).
All right, see you in a couple of minutes. :)
