DOX Centre for Contemporary Art, Praha, Czechia, 04.2016
DOX Contemporary Art Museum
Conveniently, one of Prague’s leading contemporary art museums, DOX, is located down the street from my dorm. For a art history major and overall modern art enthusiast such as myself, this was really exciting news. Today, me and my bunkmate took it upon ourselves to explore this sprawling all-white structure. The building itself is an awesome piece of modern artwork on its own. Its maze-like stairways and hallways were difficult to navigate around but in a way that led to more pleasant surprises than unwelcomed dead ends. One particular exhibit that stood out to me was the ‘Laughing Windows’ exhibit by Volker März. To summarize, the works were intellectually curious… forcing us to think about topics such as the power struggle between a parent and child and the prevalence of human sacrifice even in the present time. The museum also has a very cute cafe… full of delicious pastries and shelves after shelves of used books (although almost all of them are in Czech). An adjoining rooftop terrace overlooking the neighborhood can be found through a set of glass doors. Something tells me I’ll be frequenting this cafe a lot to study or just to read & journal… especially when it gets warmer out.
The theme for the energy company Cofely were the natural elements - water, wind, sun and the city heartbeat as well. We have connected the environment of the contemporary art centre DOX, widescreen projections and artistic performances with each natural element.
