When asked to explain the title of his seminal book The Medium is the Massage, Marshall McLuhan explained that it was actually a fortunate mistake: “Now there are four possible readings for the last word of the title, all of them accurate: MESSAGE and MESS AGE, MASSAGE and MASS AGE” he said.

‘The Book of the Now’ summarise possible readings of the publishing task and research carried by dpr-barcelona. Understanding publishing as "the act of making public", our work is subjected to explorations, failures and goals that are helping to shape the new territory of publishing in architecture. Take your past, enhance present tensions and foresee the future tense.

Abstract:

Lately, a series of spatial mementos have appeared in our cities. Closed or empty urban spaces remain as scars of a time of abundance that may not be the same anymore. The result is a sense of emptiness, enhanced when talking about high density cities, that can be traced in different contexts; no matter if we read the city under it’s “public works” or as the place for “summer amusement”.

Geopolitical space has always been a conflicted and fragile topic. Borders and frontiers are changing so fast, that sometimes seems that our sociopolitical status can change from "citizen" to "immigrant" from one moment to another, or simply live under the "immigrant" status all your life…

For the first time, I will post in French to share a call-for-registration-to-participate in a workshop, titled Dreamhamar Online Workshops. It is organized by Spanish agency Ecosistema Urbano, Curator, Architect, Editor Ethel Baraona Pohl, and architect Paco Gonzalez. A second article in English will follow this one.
