in honor of everyone who discovers this movie for the first time every year :') every once in a while, i'll get a couple likes on some of my (very) old dps posts and it's such a sweet reminder of a film i hold so dear to my heart. i hope u guys like these as much as i liked making them! feel free to discuss !!!

neil has not shut up about the theatrical release of the live capture of hadestown starting the original broadway cast. literally went to london just to see the renewal West End production of the original broadway cast (of course it was like his eighth time seeing hadestown).

+ of course he stagedoors every performance he goes to

++ each time he sees the show, he drags along a different dead poet

gerard pitts is freakishly good at doing kpop gg dances. has a tiktok chain of him doing a gg choreo every day. he recently hit 1,000 days of consecutively doing dance the night away by Twice. has Never. Never Ever. missed a single day of his choreo--he's committed for life to Twice.

+ he doesn't even like kpop nor does he know the names of any member of Twice, but he has a deep admiration for their choreo

++ meeks is the special guest dancer for every big milestone (100 days, 500 days, 1k days)...and yes everyone loves it when meeks shows up

charlie can't stop and won't stop doing the brainrot 67 move any time he passes by a young kid. thinks it's so funny when he can hypnotize a group of young kids into yelling 67 frantically and bouncing their hands up and down

+ loves to say the phrase "rawdog" in completely inappropriate contexts

++ has an ongoing challenge with himself to see how often he can slip in the word "rawdog" without anyone noticing

todd runs a clay cracking/slime/wax cracking asmr account and takes it laughably seriously. will literally plan out video ideas weeks in advance and can be very frequently found awake at 2am preparing his paraffin wax-covered clay figurines for his videos.

+ runs his account like it's the military. never misses his weekly upload. has a whole sound production set-up in his room to maximize the "satisfying" crackles

++ uses the word "tingles" which gives all the other poets the ick (except neil)

meeks has a shit posting twitter account and everyone thought he was a girl until he decided to posted a face reveal at 10k followers. had to then make 17 separate clarification posts that he was in fact Not a girl and that Boys can like Matcha and Clairo and make kawaii edits of Robert Pattinson

+ prior to face reveal, he constantly posted about SuperBat yaoi which only further added to the confusion bc all his mutals just thought he was a he/him lesbian fujo

++ would tweet about pitts all the time, to the point where all his mutals thought pitts was his bf and every "hangout" was a date

richard cameron has an incredibly elaborate animal crossing island that he's been working on for Years. literally has hundreds of hours logged on his switch and is very serious about which residents he wants on his island and which residents he venomously hates. religiously checks the radish trading prices and prides himself on never cheating to get enough money to upgrade his island

+ hates Hawks with a burning passion for no good reason

++ associates each dead poet with a specific animal crossing villager

knox is a secret megafan of Justin Bieber. not just a fan since the Swag album, but actually had been a fan since the My World 2.0 album. he used to beg his mom to take him to the concerts and he would dress up in the same outfits as JB (think white on white denim and a purple snapback--backwards, of course--with a purple hoodie)

+ even had the same haircut as 2011 Justin Bieber for YEARS

++ you bet your ass he knows every lyric and every choreo from the My World tour setlist

okay yeah i will talk about cameron.

first of all, he's obviously not evil - he's a teen he was scared he's a product of his environment etc. but i feel like we've gone from "cameron is horrible and needs to die why was he even in the movie" to something akin to "cameron actually didn't do anything wrong and was constantly treated so horribly by everyone else that it's no surprise he did what he did, he is the most traumatised out of all of them"

and i think it's important to keep in mind that 1) cameron did make a grave mistake, one that none of the other boys did. he isn't evil, but the way he behaved was wrong and had extreme consequences for others, no matter the reasoning behind it 2) the forces driving you to do something don't erase what you do - many people who do horrible things were themselves treated badly beforehand, but that is not an excuse (wrote a 4 hour discussion about this case soo sorry i'm trying not to ramble here) and most importantly

3) these boys are characters, not people. i love them with all my heart and i love writing headcanons and fanfic and all that but at the end of the day, they were written with a purpose. these boys have very strong archetypes (the hero's journey for todd, the tragic character for neil, the lover for knox etc) and cameron is one of those archetypes: he can't let go of the old ways and, in the end, goes down with them. i don't think it's fair to say that the writers hated him, he just serves a role for the story as a character.

all that said: he's really fun to write, i completely understand any die-hard defenders and i write fluffy headcanons for him too!! just wanted to get this off my chest okay byeee

richard cameron who avoided any conversation of romance.

richard cameron who would change the subject every time it was brought up. whether it was charlie joking, or neil talking about a girl he met at rehearsals, or knox ranting about chris.

richard cameron who grew to dread hanging out with knox, solely because he couldn't bear to hear one more thing about chris.

richard cameron who missed several meetings because he was worried he'd hear another poem with the theme of love.

richard cameron who just couldn't understand why he was so uncomfortable.
