I made this post on Reddit, but I figure I post it here as well…

Spoken by Grace to Selfridge after the destruction of the tree of voices; I feel like whenever I see Avatar quotes, this one in particular seems to always be overlooked.

IMO of all the quotes from the original Avatar, this is the one I feel most encompasses to overall message of the franchise and proves to be incredibly relevant now more than ever.

This next part is a bit of a rant, but I’ve noticed two different types of Avatar fans in the fandom. The more prominent side seemingly just in it for the vibes and aesthetics of the alien species/world, which is fine, everyone is free to enjoy specific media how they want, but at times it seems difficult to find those who see more than a pretty fantasy world, but something that we could have on Earth, still have if we choose to see it. I’d love to see more activists within the Avatar fandom. Even if it’s small things like, maybe you’ve stopped using disposable plastics, or stopped buying fast fashion. Me personally I’ve started crocheting and plan to start gardening and learning to weave in the near future. I eventually want to build a homestead and live off the land. Say goodbye to capitalism as much as I can. Maybe go off-grid if I’m lucky.

I’d love to use this post as a gateway for further conversation. What’s something you’ve done or want to do to help protect Earth? Do you feel called to return to nature? The world is bleak right now, but we can face it together and change it if we are loud enough.
