Saw the other headcanons for pookie randolph and I wanna know like his backstory (maybe what his childhood, adolescent years, early adulthood).
Of course! Here you go! Apologies that this took so long. I had to rewrite this four times due to some internet issues. I am glad that it functioned this time. I was getting a little frustrated. 😅
Warnings: Suicide
Being a rather private person, Dr. Randolph never revealed much about his childhood or his family. He always deflects shall a conversation lead towards these subjects, claiming that he had his reasons for doing so. And…he may not be incorrect.
Randolph was the youngest of three siblings, having an eldest sister and a middle-child brother. He came out looking almost exactly like his mother, which made him stand out from the rest of the household’s children. His siblings took after their father (blonde hair, blue eyes) and he was the only one whose mother’s genes seemed to be the dominant ones (dark eyes and dark hair).
Randolph’s father was, against the belief of many as he had a rather unpleasant facial expression etched into his features, a very friendly and loving man. While often not there due to work, he cared deeply for his children, including his son, doing all he could to make up for the time he was forced to be absent due to his job overseas.
Randolph's mother was a beautiful woman, but rather unpleasant to be around. It was not that she was unfriendly, cruel or aggressive, quite the opposite, in fact. She was quiet, reserved and rather...unique, and not positively so. She had this certain aura about her. She seemed...weird. Almost, quoting others, "unnatural”.
He took after his mother's personality, being rather anti-social and avoidant of other living beings - no matter whether human or not - while trying to keep himself busy with his own little projects. That caused a rather...complicated relationship with his brother and sister - both social butterflies - who tried to bond with him over the span of his younger years but never quite managed to do so as their interests did simply not a align. As such, neither really reached out a helping hand for him as his anti-social behavior reached a deep-end and the only living beings he interacted were their parents and themselves.
To avoid people as much as a child that was obligated to go to school physically could, he usually wandered off after his classes, taking his sweet time as he explored the village's surroundings again and again and again.
When he had begun doing so, his father had panicked the first few times when his son did not come home, even going as far as to drive out there himself as well as calling the police to find him.
His mother, however, always stayed relaxed, weirdly confident that her child would just be fine out there on his own. The father always tried to argue with her about that, but strangely enough, she was adamant, shutting down any attempt to convince her otherwise and merely telling her husband "I told you so" when Joseph did eventually return. Eventually, his father accepted the situation as it was and stopped panicking when his son disappeared once school was over.
One day, however, Randolph witnessed a horrifying scene while out. He wandered close to a train track and enjoyed the silence of nature while he played by himself and a safe distance away from the deadly zone, using the rocks as footballs and kicking them around. However, suddenly, he spotted a man within said zone, clearly intoxicated and ready for God to take him back.
The person was emotionally distraught and yelled for "Death to Take Him", screaming for a train to finally come and release him from the chains of this earth. And as this part of the system was rather active as the tracks directly connected several companies that worked together, his wish was eventually granted as one of the many delivery trains came, smashing into him despite the train driver’s best effort to stop before it could come to this, ending him with such a violent collision that his body was literally torn apart, his inner organs now fully exposed.
Instead of being disturbed and running away like any normal kid would, Randolph had been fascinated by it and approached the mess of a corpse as soon as it was safe enough to do so, staring at the result of this accident with pure wonder. He even went as far as to crouch down, poking around as he inspected the insides of the deceased in morbid fascination, marking his first and official contact with a person's insides.
And it was that very day he grew obsessed with them. That very day he wanted more.
After fleeing the scene once he had been spotted and called out to, running home where he fortunately found himself to be alone so he could wash off the blood in peace, he broke into his mother’s office, gaining access to her personal library she kept in there. He searched through it, very soon finding a book about human anatomy that would satisfy his morbid curiosity and deciding that this was enough to satisfy his curiosity for now, stealing it from her possession and taking it to his room to read. And that was exactly what he did, starting the very same day.
As the months passed by, he eventually finished it, his obsession growing larger day by day and slowly but surely manifesting into a plan on how to access “the inner life”, wanting to become a doctor just for that very purpose now. And with that in mind, the young boy set the plan to become just that into motion, setting himself the goal to become one the night his eyes swept over the last page.
Putting extra work into his schoolwork, his grades quickly improved to the point where they could be called excellent, far succeeding any other child in his class and age as he worked to achieve his objective and quickly passing through all of his necessary glasses until, finally, he managed to get a place in medical school.
From there on, he continued his grind to achieve the required knowledge and experience, working day and night for the best possible results, ignoring his own bodily needs and emotional requirements as he fell deeper and deeper into his ill-willed mania, grasping at the last strings of his sanity as he rushed through his final exams and finally, finally passing every single one of them at the very first try, opening the door to what he had wanted most at this point and time.
When he finally achieved the title as doctor, he wasted no time and sought out the most prestigious hospital in his area to start his career the very same night. After hours of searching, drenched in sweat and shaking with adrenaline, he eventually found the respectable institution “Heilwald Klinikum”, and after gathering information about this place, he decided that he would try his luck there, applying for a position the moment he realized that this was the next door that he needed to aim for.
His resume eventually reached the facility, and after having reviewed his grades and judging his potential in a personal interview that followed a few days later, the back then chief doctor Friedrich Erlenmeyer eventually decided to give this young man a chance, allowing him to proof himself in the actual establishment by granting him the position as one of them.
And proof himself he did. Greatly so. Almost…unnaturally so. It was a pleasant surprise…or so everyone thought. That was…until Erlenmeyer retired…and Randolph revealed himself to be the monster that he truly was.
