Is it just me or does the anatomy on this newest SJ page unusually weird? From Rogio's neck, to everyone's paws, to the length and curve to Rogio's muzzle and the way his ears end at a major point. It looks really weird even for Kique.

It’s part of their evolution as they begin the switch from dog to human.

Just some news on TD (Dreyrugr), apparently they are rewriting the prologue. Hopefully she's(?) fixed the writing in doing that. We can only hope.

I've actually read all of the currently released warrior's redux! Mixed feels. The dialogue is terrible imho. "Um. Like, that's insane." ectect. Fireheart is flat out annoying and unlikable, constantly rolling his eyes and 'sass'ing at everyone. And the 'no romance because it's pointless' makes no sense when romance was a huge part of the original books. Seems falsely advertised as 'IMPROVED WARRIORS' when it's clearly 'Written like the Redux's writer would have liked it to be written.'

Interesting. I’ll keep this in mind when I get around to reading through the whole thing (I just update-reblogged my previous answer) and give my thoughts after.

I did notice from browsing through the blog and some articles that names were changed (Brackenfur’s prefix is now Rye…?), so I’m wondering what the rationale for that is since bracken- is reasonable and not something like Ford150kit or Electricpaw.

I’ll stop before I get ahead of myself, though, since I’m still reading the various subpages. I’m going through the character analyses and am digging them so far.

what do you guys think about naturalistic human words for names in feral animal comics? like 'lake', or 'marigold' or 'pine', ectect

What else would you expect them to be called?

No one wants to learn a fantasy language for everything they read, and I reckon the vast majority of people operate under the assumption the animals are speaking their language. It’s just “translated” to English for us.

Words I’d consider jarring/unacceptable are things like diesel, titan, and such. (I’m drawing the most massive blank on human terms I frequently see used as names in fiction or real life examples.)

What is a list of things you think would have made comic Home good?

Ooh, this is a fun ask! I may see if the others want to chime in, so this post may be edited later.

Anyway, I feel like this can be split into two types of answers: things that would make it good only speaking in terms of the story and things that would make it better that includes the author and things such as him being willing to listen to his audience. I’m going to ignore the latter because it’ll get super technical and long.

Also, this is by no means comprehensive. I actually drew a web the other day that shows how this comic is dreadful to criticize/discuss because you can’t stay 100% on topic about one aspect without having to bring up something else. (For example: you bring up Roamer, that leads to discussing his relationship with Kargo which turns into the bad pacing of this comic and so on.)

Anyway, let me list some things off the top of my head.

Characters experience arcs that are relevant to the story and grow/face consequences for their actions that aren’t retcon. All this recent infodumping we’ve had between Rogio and Roamer has only been done because Kique is trying to retcon what he hasn’t shown due to fan criticism. It’s painfully obvious when he speaks to the audience through the characters.

Not every single fuckin’ character needs a relationship or love interest. This comic is so focused on romance it’s lost all sense of tension and there’s no plot. It’s all about who’s into who and stupid relationship drama. You can have a romance-heavy story, but you still need a fucking plot and the relationships need to matter. We have relationships just for the sake of it because single characters aren’t allowed, I guess, and no one can break up and stay broken up.

STOP STOP STOP STOP the retcon. Just fucking move on and do better. Stop trying to answer/negate EVERY fan criticism in the upcoming pages/scenes. It stops the story in its tracks and doesn’t fix anything. If it wasn’t shown, don’t try to tell us it was.

Stop bringing in new characters and plots that aren’t relevant to the story. It seems most people don’t give a fuck about the current cast, and it’s not like Kique has a good track record of thoroughly fleshing out characters before introducing more. Try and describe Keirr’s personality based 100% off what you’ve seen in the comic. Good luck coming up with anything definite.

Give the characters an actual threat. We’re 320 pages in and there is STILL no major obstacle facing the characters. The nightbeasts were a threat up until Kique realized they were a nuisance to write around. Suddenly he’s saying they were never supposed to be a major deal. …okay.

Stop trying to show us what every single character is doing at every single moment.

Stop doing arbitrary time skips JUST because people were criticizing the pacing is awful. It seems mightily convenient that the bulk of the story happened in the first six days, and suddenly it started majorly jumping around once people started ragging on his bad pacing. Just because you say 2-7 days passed doesn’t mean shit if nothing has happened during that time because the excuse is always “it happened off-screen.”

Make the multiple POVs come together. All these separate subplots should somehow tie together and affect the overall plot (even though that’s impossible to do when there is no fuckin’ overall plot).

Stop faking character deaths. It got old in Asmundr. It’s even older in Home. If you’re not going to commit to killing anyone, don’t even try it.

Stop introducing or bringing up super trivial worldbuilding things when there is so much other shit that hasn’t been explained. Aedra is an enormously shallow world, and the story had so much potential.

Get rid of all the human shit. No knives, clothes, houses, torches high up on walls, “magnets,” etc. Literally everything is explained away as “it was the sky gods!” There’s a lot of awfully convenient explanations in this story.Man, I could go on forever and elaborate on all of this with examples. Basically, there’s a lot to improve on, but the story is at a point where it just needs to be stopped and rewritten to be any good, but that won’t happen because we know Kique won’t stop the story nor will he listen to any criticism because everything is taken as a personal attack.

Just as a closing note: suspension of disbelief only works when we don’t have to suspend disbelief for everything.
