??????????
Under the moon I know your true name.
Underrated relationship dynamic, imo. Very cute.
At the end of Batman: The Killing Joker, Batman doesn't want to kill Joker he doesn't even want to beat Joker senselessly after everything. He wants to ‘bring him in by the book’. He wants to fulfill both his and Jim's ideals of showing Joker that the system can still work and that the world isn’t as bleak as Joker makes it seem to be. It makes me wonder if Joker ever wanted to get better. If he had ever envisioned a life for himself outside of crime, outside of being The Joker. or if he is just living in an echo chamber of his own ideals. He’s mentally ill, he’s resisted accepting change for so long and so has batman as their relationship has never taken any step towards change in the slightest (and never will seeing as Joker only gets more brutal in New 52) but now with a possibility of a new way forward he looks… sad? He looks unsure? of both himself and Batman.
Is Joker resistant to change or is he resistant to wanting to get better? Because being ‘insane’ means his actions and choices and the way he looks has meaning behind it all? Or because the change would mean his and Batman's relationship would truly end the moment he said yes. Because fighting one another is the closest Joker can get to having a 'relationship' with Batman without actually going through the trivialities of what real-world dating would be like for them.
in New 52 Alfred talks about how the story of Batman is a tragedy. That there is no happy ending. At the end of Batman: The Killing Joker the bridge of light we see in the rain puddle that eventually goes out is clearly a metaphor for Joker's earlier joke. Someone turned off the flashlight and left the other man to die. Now, who turned it off and which man was left, and what these nuances could mean is incredibly up to debate. But I think the very existence of this panel and now being able to consider how DC's comic line has morphed and changed since The Killing Joke's release, this panel feels more like a warning. Yes, the story of Batman is a tragedy and we would be fools to think that his and Joker's relationship will ever be more than what it currently is. Someone will always turn out the light and someone will always end up dying because of that decision.
has every player been a bruin at some point in their career or does it just feel that way
Happier story
Me and my buddy 853 went out to one of those crappy chain restaurants with delicious shitty food here in town and our waitress was so sweet, and she accidently gave 853 a water when he asked for a Sprite like the memory just got made up differently when she recalled it in her head, because her job is very hard and she was tired.
And like she was apologizing all over the place and like. I felt so bad for her like she looked like a kicked puppy like, she felt SO guilty like. Who in management is pushing her too hard and which customers are being too rude because I KNOW THAT GUILTY LOOK I KNOW IT EXACTLY I KNOW WHO AND WHAT MAKES PEOPLE LOOK LIKE THAT I’VE WORKED RETAIL I KNOW IT.
And 853 kept saying it was fine and like, I was struggling a lot with Words and psychotic dissociation so I was like, 2+2=FART???? But like I told her nooo stop apologizing!! You’re wonderful!!!
Her job is hard!! NBD now we just have a water to drink in addition to the sprite!!
And she ended up buying 853 the sprite and being like. So grateful and said she’d had such a bad day and we were so nice to her and she really appreciated it!!
And 853 was like well SHE’S GETTING A GOOD TIP, ESPECIALLY SINCE SHE’S HAD A BAD DAY. And between the two of us we bought her like. A gazillion sprites in tips. Hehe.
She just seemed so happy like. This is approximately the gazillionth story I have along these same lines involving waitresses/food service workers and it making their day that someone isn’t treating them like crap and it feels like it’s getting more common and. Idk. People are less afraid to be assholes.
It’s important to reflect on what you’ve done wrong and how to improve, but, also, you do have a lot to give. Be a light in this world. We really, really need it. It’s not all about fighting injustice and forgiveness and being a good person - it’s realizing what you already have to give.
Maybe it didn’t change the world, but just being nice, like basic human decency requires, mattered to and changed things for her after a hard day. Isn’t that worth a lot?
