Tell me more of your thoughts on our lovely DragonBear AU!!!👀
Ahh Dragonbear my beloveds
So bear with me:
Rodrik arrives to Dragonstone to take a wife, however, it is not specified who, since Rhaenyra has a daughter. After much deliberation, it is decided that he'll marry Therese
Rodrik is at first afraid. Not for him, but for her. What if his demons are too much for her? His ward Jon negotiates a performative wedding between the guardians and for them to have a long engagement until each of them turns 15 at least
In the whole time, they bond over many things: cyvasse, dragon riding, as well as horse riding, he teaches her how to fight, comes to training with her, things that young teenagers bond over
He'd also make her lowkey but thoughtful gifts to remind her that he likes her and considers her his wife
He prepares Bear Island for her, and designs her a room for herself where she can be by herself or in company of her friends and even introduces her some Bear Islander girls to keep her company
With time, he tells her about his trauma and his demisexuality and even kiss for the first time
During the war, nothing canon changes in AC: he still becomes a protege of Daemon, much to Kaleb's chagrin, and when he dies, Kaleb takes him in and they both lead many battles alongside Cregan Stark and Jeyne Arryn, and of course, his Blackwood cousins
During that time, he offers her the possibility of having her own affairs while he still isn't mentally capable of providing as a husband, but ofc she refuses, waiting for him
The blacks are victorious, and he comes back with his face scarred but victorious, and when they both turn 16, he marries her, but don't have children immediately, wanting to enjoy married life, and instead decides to take her travelling all over Bear Island and visiting neighbouring castles, making relations between houses
As we discussed, every child's birth is decided by Therese, as well as intimacy in general, she sets the pace and initiates, although Rodrik has his moments of initiating as well, though he likes it more when she does it
“Oh dear, are you lost? Don’t worry little one, I will shield you from the cold until we find your way home.” Another piece that I had in near-completion at the end of last year, but spent too much time staring at it before I decided it was done. xD As of some time this year, this character will be a decade old, wow! Like with a lot of my old OCs and their origins, I didn’t know what to do with her for a while, but doing this revamp really endeared myself to her concept as a benevolent guide through the vast tundra she calls home. I think it speaks to the evolution of my design sensibilities in that I can take ideas from my baby designer days or earlier and actually turn them into legitimate concepts and character designs that fit with the things I create nowadays. It feels a bit like going back for an old friend you haven’t seen in ages and walking with them for a while to catch up, and then introducing them to your current friend group. Fun stuff :)

Why I ship Dany and Tormund and you should as well
Dany doesn’t need her nephew to be a badass queen, people should finally acknowledge that there are much better options than her brooding - and let’s be honest incredibly bland - nephew. There is no reason to destroy the beautiful budding familial relationship with a complicated lovestory when there is a much better option that ensures Dany’s happiness.
I’ve done some rereading of the books and rewatching of the show and I be I’ll have you persuaded of this god tier ship when you’re through with the list @lady-in-a-song, @kellyvela, @occupyvenus and I put together!
Dany has a history of marrying men who are not from the seven kingdoms: Drogo, Hizdahr... it stands to reason that her third husband is from outside the 7 kingdoms as well, and who better than Tormund Giantsbane?
Tormund is a ginger. “Fire and blood” are the words of house Targaryen. She’s destined to marry a ginger.
Tormund is clearly very much into courageous warrior woman. He just has to get over his infatuation with Brienne, who is not that pleased about his advances anyway. Once Brienne is with Jaime, Tormund’s eyes will meet Dany’s and their relationship will start.
Tormund is from North of the Wall. Dany is from the South, they bring North and South together.
Dany’s lover Daario has blue-dyed hair in the books. She’ll now fall for a man who has naturally red hair. That’s a better contrast to her silvery hair anyway.
When we first meet Tormund in the books, he is called ‘breaker of ice’. That’s a clear sign that he should be associated with ice as well.
He is also the Horn Blower. While Jon thinks that the horn is the Horn of Joramun, this is clearly a red herring: The Horn Tormund will blow is the dragonbinding horn from the books. He will be the rider of Rhaegal.
Tormund 'laughed easily and often’ (ADWD, Jon IX). He would be ideal to give Dany some well earned fun.
Tormund bedded a bear. That shows that he is not afraid at all. Who is ‘husband to bears’ can be husband to a dragon, surely? Tormund’s story with the bear is the reverse of the ‘bear and the maiden fair’ and when he meets Dany it will be reversed again to mirror the song.
In ADWD it is Val, the wildling princess whose hair turns silver in moonlight, that rescues Tormund from beyond the wall. That clearly is a foreshadowing of Dany rescuing Tormund next season, because Val is a stand-in for Dany.
Tormund also had a run-in with a big giant woman. This clearly shows that he is not afraid of being the less important person in a relationship, like he would have to be with Dany.
Tormund is of the Freefolk, while Dany has a history of freeing slaves. Finally, she’ll meet someone who is not in need of her breaking his chains and this will make her respect him.
Val, the stand-in for Dany stands beside Stannis, the king with the frozen temper, who has taken the fiery heart as his sigil. and this clearly shows that a wildling (Tormund) will stand beside a fire queen. This is gender-swapped foreshadowing.
Tormund according to his titles is a ‘speaker to Gods’, and Dany the Unburnt is almost a Goddess.
Dany is Mhysa to the slaves and the unsullied, their mother, while Tormund is a fahther of hosts (which we can take to mean an army here).
Tormund lost a son beyond the Wall in the books and he came back as a wight. Dany lost Viserion and he came back as wight. Shared pain will make them love each other.
Jon Connington in the books is a ginger like Tormund. He had a crush on Rhaegar, Dany’s brother. This is clearly foreshadowing of Tormund falling for Dany and of Tormund the ginger riding Rhaegal.
Dany repeatedly dreams about the house with the red door. Red means home for her. She’ll find her home with Tormund. And she’ll help defeat the White Walkers so that Tormund will get his home back.
And there are beautiful pieces of foreshadowing in the books: He [Tormund] grinned at Jon. "See, lad, that's why he's king and I'm not. I can outdrink, outfight, and outsing him, and my member's thrice the size o' his, but Mance has cunning. He was raised a crow, you know, and the crow's a tricksy bird." (ASOS, Jon I) - This clearly shows that Tormund will be prince consort to Dany and that she’ll leave the crow, the tricksy bird for him. Also Jon has only a small pecker, so Tormund is better endowed to satisfy Dany. It is canon, she needs a large member: "One of her captains comes of a line where the men have foot-long members," he told them, "but even he's not big enough for her. She rode with the Dothraki and grew accustomed to being fucked by stallions, so now no man can fill her." (ADWD, The Windblown)
And when Tormund tells his tale about the giant woman, there is another case of foreshadowing: Well, here's a tale for you. It were another winter, colder even than the one I spent inside that giant, and snowing day and night, snowflakes as big as your head, not these little things. It snowed so hard the whole village was half buried. I was in me Ruddy Hall, with only a cask o' mead to keep me company and nothing to do but drink it. The more I drank the more I got to thinking about this woman lived close by, a fine strong woman with the biggest pair of teats you ever saw. She had a temper on her, that one, but oh, she could be warm too, and in the deep of winter a man needs his warmth. (ASOS, Jon II) - This tells us, that Tormund will fall for the lady with the hot dragons.
And finally, when Tormund is introduced he gets a string of titles: “As you wish. Jon Snow, before you stands Tormund Giantsbane, Tall-talker, Horn-blower, and Breaker of Ice. And here also Tormund Thunderfist, Husband to Bears, the Mead-king of Ruddy Hall, Speaker to Gods and Father of Hosts." (ASOS, Jon I). Compare this post by @kellyvela.
If that hasn’t persuaded you yet of this beautiful ship just think of this:
Tormund says that he has a problem with kneeling, but he will learn to kneel for the right woman. Dany has a problem with demanding that people kneel for her and with Tormund she will learn that she only needs one man to kneel for her.
A ship made to be shipped, a ship born in the intricacies or GRRM’s mind, this is the ship we want!
How to name our ship? Tory doesn’t sit right with me... Torerys looks bad, if you ask me. Daentor sounds very good I think. Daenmund as well... Of course we could also call it Dragonbear.
