last night i commenced rereading ALL the Pern books, it’s fine, i dont need to eat or sleep or do any work, there’s gay psychic dragon sex to read about
this is entirely @irmgardbaty‘s fault and they havent ever even read the books.
I FORGOT ABOUT THE APOSTROPHE NAMES. SO MANY APOSTROPHES. but also i forgot how much i genuinely loved these books as a smol, and how into the whole “feudal-society-but-with-dragons-uncovers-remnants-of-a-more-technologically-advanced-age” storyline and im remembering, like, they eventually do space travel, dont they!? WITH DRAGONS! they go TO THE WANDERING PLANET and CHANGE ITS ORBIT with SCIENCE AND DRAGONS oh man, i can overlook a whole lot of Weird 60s-80s Heroines and gender essentialist bullshit for SCIENCE AND DRAGONS
also, the last time i read these books, i (a) didn’t have money to buy the ones i was missing, so i missed a bunch bc my library didn’t have them and the internet wasn’t really a thing, and (b) didn’t have much critical thinking capacity because i was literally twelve, so i am looking forward to some reVELATIONS about this shit, and (c) even like when the internet became a thing, Pern fandom was, it was WEIRD, you guys, there were mccaffrey-issued RULES, and you got kicked out if you broke them, and that was back in the days when we all thought authors didn’t have access to the same internet as us
