🔥 Yugioh 🤔
Unpopular opinion regarding Yu-Gi-Oh! but Akhnakanem is worse than Akhnadin. At least, I’d be willing to bet that’s an unpopular opinion?
Before I get into why, I’ll just, cards on the table state that Akhnadin’s classist and quasi-ethnocentrist genocide of a whole village was an evil, and unforgivable act. There we go. Got that out the way.
So, why is Akhnakanem worse imo? Well, Akhnadin’s decision to murder a whole bunch of people (still not okay), was predicated on ‘there is a murdering army arriving to rape and pillage the entire kingdom including that one village and we have no means of protecting our citizens at all and lots of people will die’.
I think anyone deciding which members of a population are disposable human sacrifices for the greater good is-- uh, inherently a complete monster? That is a monstrous thing to do. But I can also have a degree of sympathy for someone caught in the trolley problem.
We also know Zorc’s influence is incredibly corrupting -- thus how Akhnadin goes from willing to not only give up his birthright over this crime (a fraction of self-awareness) as well as disown his son in order to protect him from cultural karmic inheritance (look it up, the egyptians are big on that), to-- trying to murder his son cause they disagree kinda? That’s kinda nuts. Zorc jammed Akhnadin’s already questionable jelly right up.
Compare this to Akhnakanem who:
1. Never questioned where his brother got the items, only that whatever it was needed an army, dark spell book and like a whole bunch of priests died and never came back.
2. Even when Mahaad specifically is like uh your highness, I think these items are made of soylent green, Akhnakanem doesn’t strip Akhnadin of council position, doesn’t make any efforts to honour the people of kul elna, doesn’t have a damn burial, just kinda does some half-assed whining on behalf of his son who HE LETS FALL OFF A FUCKING LEDGE.
3. Canonically uses the items to not only repel the army that had Akhnadin so fucked up, but then became the same army, by using the items to conquer surrounding nomes. THAT IS CANON.
Akhnakanem is a goddamn cowardly bastard who reaps the benefit of his people’s deaths by going to war, and Akhnadin made a horrific decision, but did so in order to save lives.
SO like. Js.
