It was about 6 years ago when we first met. And it was about 6 days ago when he passed away. We've barely talked. But I don't know why I remember so well about our first conversation, it's about music. He introduced me to the music I've never listened to before. His list of artists and bands was like a beginning for me to discover the others. Music had slowly start to grow on me for the past few years without me knowing it and suddenly turned into my obsession nowadays. We both graduated from the same college last year. After that, we've met few times, and again, we've barely talked. Until few weeks ago I've accidentally met him, didn't expect that it would be the last time. He knew that I was recently forming a band and I was new to all electronic instruments. As we talked, I didn't realise before that he owned a lot of it and he told me that he would lend me his instruments and also would like to come to my gigs. I thanked him and I told him I'd let him know. But it's too late. On the very same day I had a gig, he's gone forever. He will never get to come to my gigs and I will never get to borrow his instruments. But I will never forget that he inspired me a lot. He was like a little light that guides me to walk on the music path. It meant a lot to me and I hope he hears me now. Sleep well, my friend. I should have talked to you more.

BOOOOOOOM x Herschel Supply, "Drawing on the Past" Giveaway and Art Project!

Jeff Hamada (That's him up top, sitting next to the river) over at BOOOOOOOM.COM recently emailed me about a project he was doing with Herschel Supply called "Drawing on the Past" where artists are given a small space to draw a person, place or thing that has affected their lives in a positive way.  He was curious if I'd like to participate, I said "sure!" immediately.

My contribution to the project, however, is a smaller part of a much larger community driven project which anyone can now enter over on BOOOOOOOM.  Lucky contributors will have their work shown on the BOOOOOOM blog and a number of entries will even be chosen for an art show in Vancouver that will be showcasing selected submissions as well as other artist's contributions.  You can find out how to enter right here.

For his own entry, Jeff drew inspiration from his childhood sleeping bag he'd take to summer camp and a physical recreation of this took form with the help of Herschel Supply and some illustration by Andrea Wan as a limited edition Booooooom Bag which will be released July 9th and available here.  Three lucky submissions to the project will receive one of these bags.  (Having received one myself I can say, wholeheartedly, it is AWESOME.)

With my piece for the project I chose a place and that place was San Francisco (The cityscape above) because of all the things it's offered me and the people I've met there.  Visiting San Francisco for the first time in 2009, I decided to devote this blog - at the time just a personal blog - entirely to art.  Since then my life has changed wildly and wonderfully thanks to that little visit.  I've also been lucky enough to have three art shows devoted to Supersonic hosted there at Spoke Art (And a 4th in January 2015!), I've met some of the best friends I've ever had and I've even fallen in love there.  Those being just a few of the many reasons I chose it as my subject.
