She brought Sukunas buzzing phone into the bathroom, where he was getting ready.
" Someone's is calling you." She informed him, handing him his phone. He looked at the screen and his stomach dropped seeing the name and picture.
It was an old number. A long forgotten hookup.
So irrelevant he hadn't even thought of deleting it - or remembered it even existed.
He declined the call and slipped the phone into his pocket.
She hadn't sounded accusing when she handed him the phone. But neither had the ones before the moment before they had gone bat shit crazy. He braced himself for impact.
"Yeah. What of it?", Sukuna snapped for too harshly, defenses slammed in place.
" Oh? Uhm. Nothing, l just thought you might want to answer it? I don't know?" She looked genuinely confused at his reaction- not angry, not testing. Others would have already screeched at him.
"You're not angry?" His anger fizzled out, almost as quickly as it had overtaken him.
"What? Why? Because you receive calls?" She startled a little and genuinely looked as though she couldn't decide between confusion and amusement.
"Because it was a chic calling. " She angled her face, brows creasing in a ridiculously cute expression of concern. Was she really that safe? It could still be a trap.
" Oh. I didn't really think about that? I assumed it was one of your friends."
" Oh. " The last remnants of tension bled from his posture and he looked at her feeling like an absolute idiot.
Sukuna looked at her in wonder. There was not even a hint of deception in her features, no anger only the confused concern. How was she so different? - It caught him off guard way too many times. Hopefully he'd get used to it - with time - if he didn't fuck it up.
Sukuna slipped into his leather jacket, grabbed his keys and was about to pull on his shoes when he noticed the quiet.
No hurried heels or clinking of jewelry.
He found her in the bedroom and gave her a once over, appraising her appearance. She wore the hoodie he'd discarded, her adorably dorky starwars PJ pants and a pair of thick socks.
She looked ready for an evening on the couch or in bed but definitely not ready to go out.
"Babe, why 're you not ready?" She looked at him, angling her face in confusion.
"You wanted me to come with?" Sukuna was speechless. Not one of his past girlfriends had ever let him go out without at least making a fuss about it if not demanding to come along.
"I assumed you would want to come... I'm meeting up with the guys."
" Yeah that's why I assumed it's a boy's night and you're going alone." Huh. He hardly knew what to say to that. That was the kind of freedom he'd always wanted, wasn't it? Why did it lowkey make him want her to come along?
" Would you like to come?" He looked at her, ridiculously hopeful.
" If you're sure? But I need a few minutes, is that okay?"
"Yeah. No problem." He quickly notified the group chat that they'd be late and busied himself by ridding his phone of old contacts.
Not even twenty minutes later she was ready. Black jeans and crop top. Minimalistic. Cute. Understated. Like a girl that had absolutely nothing to prove and noone to impress.
"Good?" She asked.
" Perfect." He answered truthfully, for the first time actually genuinely excited to introduce a girl to his friends.
