everyone look at my brother’s kitten. his name is junebug and his favourite activity is biting
wish you would write a fic where buck and eddie are silly and married <3
Eddie’s alone in the grocery store. Well really, he’s alone in the pasta aisle where Buck left him, somewhere between the rigatoni and mostaccioli.
They’ve been married for a year, he really shouldn’t be surprised by this anymore.
Here’s how it goes: Buck spots an ingredient that reminds him of a recipe, and he takes off to find everything else he needs before he forgets. Which would be fine if he ever told Eddie where he was going. It gets worse when they’re shopping with Christopher, because he always wanders off with Buck, leaving Eddie to guess where they’re going.
And he loves his husband, so, so dearly, but shopping with him is a nightmare. He makes lists with no intention of following them, wanders off, and throws chip bags down the aisle trying to land them in the cart (his aim is awful, but at least Eddie’s good at catching).
Eddie debates leaving the aisle to find Buck, but knowing him, he’s shopping at a superhuman speed and will most definitely come back looking for him with some random assortment of items in hand. It’s almost a game, trying to look at Buck’s handful of groceries and follow his train of thought.
“Anything I can help you with?” he hears at the end of the aisle. “You seem a little lost.”
“Oh, I’m just looking for my husband—” Buck says, scanning over her head. His face softens when he spots Eddie, “—who I just found.”
Eddie smiles back, taking a few steps forward to grab the onion slipping from Buck’s hand.
“Hi.”
“Hi,” Eddie laughs. “Where’d you go?”
“Well we were getting pasta, and I saw the macaroni and I decided I wanted to make mac and cheese, but we don’t have any cheese so I had to go grab that before I forgot,” he points around at all the ingredients in the cart, “and—oh and breadcrumbs—I had to grab those too and I couldn’t decide between Italian and Panko so I just got both and then I couldn’t remember if we were out of butter—”
“—We are.”
“Good, because it was buy one get one, so I had to get two boxes.”
“And the onion?”
Buck stares into the cart, trying to follow his own thought process on that. “Is it on the list?”
“No,” he says, “but I’m sure we’ll find a use for it.”
“I’ll use it for the cheese sauce?”
And Eddie could pull out Buck’s list, make fun of him for writing it even if he never follows it (though Eddie’s not much better about following his own lists), but it’s endearing how he gets so excited about something as simple as a pasta dish, and even after years of home cooked meals from Buck, his chest still aches at the smell of garlic and onion on the stove.
“Sounds perfect.”
At this point, they’re loitering in the pasta aisle, and blocking, well, everything, but Buck’s still smiling at him in the gentle way that makes his eyes crinkle at the corner, and Eddie never stood a chance really. He kisses his husband, short and sweet, takes him by the hand, and pulls them on to the next aisle.
“Next time you wander off, tell me where you’re going.”
“I’ll just take you with me,” Buck squeezes his hand.
“Even better.”
tell me what fic you wish i'd write, and i'll tell you how i'd write it
i'm just spit balling, but i feel like, if it hasnt already happened, the dispatch fire is going to be the thing that finally pushes buddie to talk. so like, either at the end of 5.16, or some point during the first half of 5.17, we'll get that conversation. and then that conversation + whatever happens in fomo (bc eddie missing being on the job is going to happen) + eddie making a few saves during the dispatch fire, will all lead to eddie coming back to the 118 at the end of 5.17 (and then that way he'll be back for the finale)
no i'm actually standing in front of a murder wall pinning red string all over the place rn connecting all of the dots
i'm throwing my hat in for eddie buck having some kind of blow up during the fire about the way they both put themselves in danger and how they can't have each other's backs when they're on opposite sides of a call, 5x16 ending on a Tough buck/eddie note, first half of 5x17 being divorce era 2.0/eddie having a big talk with chris leading up to second half of 5x17 being buddie reconciliation, ep ends with eddie asking bobby for his job back
also my buddie brain is begging for eddie telling buck not to do anything stupid to save eddie/buck being furious eddie would ask him to give up on him/eddie throwing the will down leading into the Big Will conversation
percy jackson inspired au??? lorna im going to kiss you on the mouth
you mean..... this percy jackson inspired au ....
Buck had always loved flowers. Long before his powers had manifested, he had loved flowers – the bright colours, the way their scent lingered in the air. When his powers had come to light, and he’d spent his first summer at Camp Half-Blood, learning how to control them, Buck had been overjoyed to realise that one of the abilities his mother had passed onto him was the ability to manipulate flowers. Not in the same way as Demeter, or Dionysus, no, but he was still able to make flowers sprout between the cracks in the pavement or bring the flowers Abby had left on her kitchen table back to life, each time they’d died.
He should let go of the flowers – he knew he should. It was sad, to hold onto something that should have died long ago, and Buck was convinced that if his mother was aware (no, she was aware, Buck reminded – she was aware of everything, it was more she didn’t care to deal with the mortal leanings of her children) she would chew his ear off for wallowing in his heartbreak. You’re a son of Aphrodite, she’d remind, in that calm, terrifying voice of hers, the one that brought grown men and Gods to their knees. We break hearts – we don’t have ours broken.
Apparently even being the son of the goddess of love, didn’t save you from heartbreak.
Satisfied with the flowers that were now decorating the cracks in the pavement in front of the firehouse, Buck mooched inside. Life was different now, for demigods. They were expected to live much longer, and so they had begun to join traditionally mortal careers – as it turns out, some of them were inherently suited to the abilities of a demigod.
Buck was different. He didn’t have abilities that made being a firefighter easier. Bobby – he was a son of Hephaestus, the God of forges and fire – if anyone was made to be a firefighter, it was their captain. Hen – she was a daughter of Athena, which was fitting, given she was the wisest person Buck had ever met. Chimney – he was a son of Apollo. Buck was a little jealous, of that one – the God of healing, of reason and knowledge. They all brought powers that mattered and that helped them in their daily work.
Buck didn’t.
It was the mortal side of him, that had allowed him to become a firefighter.
#there is a part of me that thinks even after buck and eddie get together#buck will always have this underlying sadness to him#an ache#you can’t really mend what was never whole
no but em you're right. like obviously buck is going to know he's loved by eddie. but when you've lived your life with a heart that's always been in pieces, even putting them back together won't erase the cracks. so he's always going to be a little heartbroken
i think there's a version of Buck—the version of him with Eddie—that knows he is loved. unequivocally Eddie will make sure Buck knows that he is loved by so many people in his life—Christopher, Maddie, the 118.
that's not really the hard part, to know you're loved. the heartbreak comes when Buck sits down and thinks about whether or not he deserves that unconditionality. when you're born to save someone and you fail, there's nothing anyone can say to prove to you that you deserve to be loved. there's something about life and death that's so black and white—Buck has never lost anyone he loved like Chimney, and Maddie, and Eddie have—but you can't tell me that he doesn't feel responsible for Daniel's death in the same way the other members of the 118 feel for their loved ones respectively. even though it's not at all rational sometimes—as it was with Maddie and Doug.
and the difference is—with Maddie and Bobby and Eddie and Chim and the rest of them—the difference is there's a period of time, between their birth and the loss, in which they were happy. really, they were happy, in their childhood or when Eddie was 18 going on a date with Shannon for the first time. Buck was born to save someone, and he failed. fundamentally, he doesn't know how to be happy. he never has been. and that'll be hard to reconcile with—when you know you're loved but you can't believe it.
okay but like the extra content really has some of the best quotes of the whole series, and the fact that not everyone has easy access to them is a tragedy
(also that quote making you think of me makes me so soft 🥺)
TRULY A TRAVESTY!! i didn't know B&N even did exclusive content editions until i read TFOTA and then i was just like but for whyyy??
also i'm so glad cos really i refer to the whole TWK bonus chapter as "the drew chapter" so take that B&N 🥺✊
