It's a myth that you should throw out your dry herbs & spices every 12 months.
I've been working on the same half pound of ground cinnamon for going on 10 years, still as amazingly fragrant as the day I bought it.
My 3-oz container of summer savory is looking at its 13th year in my spice cabinet and still tastes great on toast & in salad dressing.
Don't let capitalism convince you to throw out useful things.
